Cubic³ provides advanced software-defined vehicle solutions to over 200 countries around the world. Our powerfully smart connectivity enables leading automotive, agriculture, and transportation OEMs to deliver innovative new services and fully compliant in-vehicle experiences that customers desire, regardless of local market requirements.

We believe in leadership that supports empowerment and responsibility, while recognising and developing leadership qualities across Our Team. Together we bring out the best in each other. So, whether you’re interested in joining us as an individual contributor, manager, senior leader – or someone who aspires to growing into a leadership role – we look for people who are results focused, empathetic, visionary, empowering, and who ‘champion’ our cultures and values.

The Role

As the Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI), you will work closely with peers across the Data & AI organisation and a broad set of stakeholders to define and deliver our future state AI capabilities that clearly differentiate our solutions and enable Cubic to become disproportionately productive as the business scales.

AI, in the context of this role, refers to systems and technologies capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, including:

  • Predictive AI - leverage data to forecast outcomes and drive decisions;

  • Generative AI - create content or data based on learned patterns;

  • Agentic AI - autonomously plan, decide and act to achieve goals, integrating multiple AI capabilities.

You will drive the vision, technology strategy and continuous improvement of our AI platforms. Your role will be pivotal in delivering AI capabilities that enable solutions delivering substantial value to our customers and transformation to our internal operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Evangelising

    • Partner with Product and Business stakeholders to identify use cases where AI can deliver a measurable return on investment (e.g. revenue, cost, efficiency).

    • Collaborate with the Director of Data Products to assess feasibility and shape the roadmap for AI-enabled product features, aligned to business priorities.

    • Contribute to KPIs that track AI initiative success, from solution performance to business impact and adoption metrics.

  • Bespoke implementation

    • Build and lead a team of AI Engineers to design, develop and deploy custom AI-driven solutions that address well-defined business problems and opportunities.

    • Define best practices and technical standards for AI development, evaluation and deployment, ensuring long term sustainability.

    • Work closely with Technology leaders to ensure AI solutions are production-ready, performant and integrated into the broader technology stack.

  • Research and adoption

    • Promote and support adoption of AI tools across internal functions through stakeholder education, proof-of-concepts and advocacy.

    • Stay ahead of AI trends, tools and regulations to inform strategic investment decisions and inspire innovation across the team and business.

    • Provide AI expertise in cross-functional forums, supporting governance, risk, and compliance efforts where AI is in scope.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading applied AI/ML teams and initiatives in a commercial environment, ideally at a product-oriented company.

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies and techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, natural language processing and model explainability.

  • Proven ability to translate business challenges into AI solutions that scale, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes.

  • Collaborative mindset with experience working in close partnership with Product, Engineering and Business teams.

  • Strong understanding of MLOps principles and familiarity with modern machine learning tooling (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, etc.).

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with senior and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy and ethical AI practices.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field.

  • Experience evaluating third-party AI solutions and integrating vendor tools when appropriate.

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments with a focus on ROI and business alignment.

Additional, optional requirements:

  • Experience of working in IoT, telecommunications, automotive or connectivity domains.

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science or related field is a plus.

New hires at Cubic³ are required to work onsite five days a week during their six-month probation period to get to know the company, their team, and our ways of working. After probation, we offer a flexible arrangement of up to eight work-from-home days per month, provided it aligns with business needs and performance standards.

Cubic³ is an equal opportunities employer and committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
