As the Director of Applied Research for Corporates Tax & Trade, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our AI capabilities for global corporations in retail, technology, pharma, and beyond. You’ll guide a talented team to deliver customer-centric solutions today while exploring the art of the possible for tomorrow.

About the Role
In this opportunity as a Director, Applied Research – Corporates Tax & Trade, you will:

  • Lead and coach a high-performing team of 20+ applied scientists and research engineers.

  • Set clear expectations, model best practices, and foster a culture of innovation.

  • Drive the end-to-end development of AI and ML solutions for the ONESOURCE suite.

  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, editorial, and UX to help oversee multiple key initiatives across the Corporates Tax & Trade product portfolio and deliver impactful solutions.

  • Manage project portfolio, budgets, and staff allocation to meet business goals.

  • Represent the team’s work to customers and external audiences, championing achievements.

  • Be an AI subject matter expert, stay on top of the latest developments in the field and drive a research roadmap to demonstrate the art of the possible and unlock hard AI problems that drive transformational customer value.

About You
You’re a fit for the role of Director, Applied Research – Corporates Tax & Trade if you have the following required qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline or Master’s plus comparable experience.

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience building AI/NLP systems for commercial applications.

  • 5+ years of management experience leading and developing high-performing teams.

  • Proven ability to deliver minimum viable products in a large enterprise environment.

  • Experience building and maintaining production ML systems on AWS.

  • Expertise designing and implementing solutions with large language models, including RAG and agentic frameworks.

  • Outstanding communication skills and data-driven decision-making ability.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • 8+ years of management experience coaching and developing high-performing teams.

  • Experience innovating state-of-the-art research to solve applied, real-world problems.

  • Publications at relevant venues such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, ICML, KDD, or similar conferences.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $203,000 - $377,000. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
