The Director of Applications Engineering will provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the Applications Engineering department. This pivotal role drives the development of innovative technical solutions, system designs, and engineering proposals that support both EPC project execution and business development initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a highly technical, multi-disciplinary leader who possesses a rare blend of engineering expertise, commercial acumen, and construction knowledge. As a key representative of RavenVolt, you will foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Pay: $170,000 - $ 210,000
The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Qualifications & Requirements
Experience & Education
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive engineering experience within an EPC environment, microgrid technology, or power generation industry, with at least 5+ years in a senior management or directorial leadership role.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a must.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Profound understanding of electrical, mechanical, controls, and civil engineering principles applied to industrial and commercial energy systems.
  • Strong familiarity with utility interconnection processes, permitting requirements, and national codes/standards such as but not limited to NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC, NERC.
  • Exceptional commercial aptitude with a proven track record of supporting successful business development and estimating efforts.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership & Resource Management
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage the Applications Engineering department; conduct performance evaluations, and drive professional development and training initiatives.
  • Resource Planning: Collaborate with other engineering leaders on resource planning, workload forecasting, and project staffing strategies.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain accountability for engineering deliverables, schedules, budgets, and quality performance metrics.
  • Culture: Foster an organizational culture centered on safety, accountability, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Technical Design & Proposal Development
  • Technical Solutions: Oversee the development of technical solutions, system designs, and comprehensive engineering proposals for industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
  • Proposal Collaboration: Partner with Business Development, Estimating, Operations, and Project Management teams to build highly competitive technical and commercial proposals.
  • Compliance & Review: Review customer specifications, bid packages, engineering drawings, and project requirements to guarantee technical compliance and constructability.
  • Engineering Oversight: Direct the preparation of engineering calculations, equipment selections, system layouts, and comprehensive technical documentation.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Quality Control
  • Multidisciplinary Leadership: Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, and process engineering functions.
  • Standards & Workflows: Collaborate with fellow engineering leads to establish and maintain engineering standards, workflows, quality control procedures, and organizational best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation related to engineering tools, process automation, and digital integration.
Client, Vendor, & Project Execution Support
  • External Stakeholder Interface: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, consultants, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
  • Procurement Support: Facilitate procurement activities through detailed technical evaluations, vendor coordination, equipment specifications, and submittal reviews.
  • Value Engineering: Lead value engineering initiatives aimed at optimizing project cost, schedule, safety, and long-term operational performance.
  • Risk & Field Support: Participate in project risk assessments, resolve complex technical challenges during design/construction phases, and support commissioning, startup, and field troubleshooting as required.
Strategic & Executive Support
  • Strategic Growth: Assist executive leadership with strategic planning, market analysis, technology adoption, and operational growth initiatives.
  • Brand Ambassadorship: Represent RavenVolt in high-stakes client presentations, industry events, technical meetings, and contract negotiations.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Master's degree (preferred)
  • 7+ years progressive engineering experience within an EPC environment, microgrid technology, or power generation industry
