Overview:

We seek a dynamic and experienced Director of Application Development to lead our small, agile development department in designing, building, and maintaining cutting-edge enterprise applications. This role will be pivotal in advancing our Pulse app (built on Salesforce), and spearheading newly initiated AI application projects, and driving automation initiatives through RPA. 

  

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience leading development teams, architecting custom solutions across multiple platforms, and overseeing the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC). You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure our applications align with business objectives, are scalable, and leverage modern technologies to deliver exceptional value.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership & Strategy 

  • Provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership for a small, agile development team 
  • Define the application development roadmap, prioritizing initiatives like the Pulse app (Salesforce-based) and new AI-driven solutions 
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration 

Application Architecture & Development 

  • Oversee end-to-end development efforts, from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring high-quality and secure code delivery 
  • Guide the architecture and design of custom enterprise applications across Salesforce, AI platforms, and other relevant technologies
  • Champion best coding, testing, DevOps, and software governance practices to maintain compliance and performance standards 

AI & RPA Initiatives 

  • Drive the roadmap and execution for newly initiated AI applications, identifying opportunities to leverage machine learning and advanced analytics
  • Evaluate and implement RPA solutions to automate repetitive processes, collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize and measure impact
  • Stay current with emerging AI and automation trends to foster continuous innovation

Salesforce & Enterprise Platform Management 

  • Lead the ongoing development of our Pulse app built on Salesforce, ensuring it meets evolving business needs
  • Oversee integrations and customizations within Salesforce, maintaining alignment with overall enterprise architecture
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify enhancements and drive adoption of Salesforce and other enterprise platforms (e.g., Workday, Azure) 

Team Building & Mentorship 

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of developers, architects, and technical specialists
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to nurture team growth
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and cross-training to build a resilient, flexible team

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with business units, product owners, and other IT teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Communicate progress, risks, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to ensure alignment on priorities, resource allocation, and project timelines 

Technical Governance & Compliance 

  • Enforce adherence to security best practices, data privacy regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, SOC2)
  • Maintain clear, comprehensive documentation of architectures, processes, and procedures 
  • Continuously assess technologies, tools, and methodologies to optimize development processes and ensure compliance 

Qualifications

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; MBA or relevant certifications (e.g., Salesforce, Agile, AI/ML) a plus
  • 7+ years of experience in application development with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Proven track record leading agile development teams and delivering enterprise-scale applications 

Technical Expertise 

  • Salesforce development and architecture experience, including custom app development (Salesforce certifications highly desirable) 
  • AI/ML exposure—understanding model development, data pipelines, and deployment of AI solutions 
  • RPA experience (e.g., UiPath, Actian, Automation Anywhere), a solid grasp of automation strategy and implementation 
  • Strong proficiency in integration technologies (RESTful APIs, middleware, ETL) and DevOps practices 
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, as well as modern database systems (SQL, NoSQL) 
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and microservices architectures is a plus 

Leadership & Soft Skills 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker capable of balancing long-term vision with day-to-day execution
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with Workday integrations and related enterprise platforms
  • Exposure to enterprise reporting tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Advanced knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and related tools (e.g., Jira)
