We are looking for a Director of AI Strategy & Performance Intelligence (full-time) to join our team in Berlin.
As Director of AI Strategy & Performance Intelligence, you will lead Babbel’s transformation into an AI-native language learning platform. This pivotal role owns the development and execution of performance intelligence strategy, predictive analytics, and enterprise-wide AI solutions, ensuring pedagogical excellence, operational efficiency, and sustained competitive advantage. You will bridge advanced AI capabilities with business strategy, enabling executive decision-making and measurable business value across the organization.
You will:
- Define & Drive AI Strategy: Architect and implement AI-driven microservices and predictive engines to address competitive challenges and accelerate subscriber growth.
- Deliver Predictive Analytics: Develop models for customer churn prevention, content effectiveness, and proactive retention interventions to increase customer lifetime value.
- Optimize Content & Outcomes: Create algorithms to automate content testing, performance measurement, and continuous improvement cycles, eliminating underperforming materials before they reach learners.
- Transform Business Intelligence: Advance reporting infrastructure into predictive dashboards for real-time, proactive decision-making. Build meta-data and semantic layers for both human and agent data consumption.
- Enable AI-Powered Operations: Develop analytics platforms for automated customer support, AI-powered classification, and recommendation systems to improve response quality and resolution times.
- Embed AI Across the Business: Partner with Product, Infrastructure, InfoSec, Legal, Marketing, Operations, and Sales to integrate AI into user-facing features and internal processes.
- Measure & Maximize Impact: Implement measurement frameworks that directly link AI investments to business outcomes, ensuring ROI through revenue generation, cost reduction, and competitive advantage.
- Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Drive process automation, predictive maintenance, and resource allocation, supporting predictive lead scoring, customer acquisition, and sales forecasting.
You have:
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent industry experience
- 8+ years’ progressive experience in business intelligence, with a track record of delivering AI/ML solutions that drive measurable business outcomes
- Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), analytics platforms (Python, R), SQL, BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker), and real-time/cloud-based AI platforms (Databricks, AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google AI Platform)
- Preferred: Experience with workflow automation (n8n) or Agentic AI Standards (MCP, A2A)
- A proven track record optimizing subscription business models, ideally in EdTech or consumer technology, by translating AI capabilities into revenue growth, cost reduction, or improved customer satisfaction, with clear metrics and timeframes.
- Experience leading and managing complex cross-functional projects in matrix organizations, with strong stakeholder management, executive communication, and board presentation skills.
- Strategic leadership abilities, including analytics strategy development, technology-driven organizational transformation, change management, and vision-setting.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and deep knowledge of GDPR compliance, data privacy, and European business practices.
