Job Description

At Rabobank, our commitment to our employees and clients is at the heart of everything we do.

As the world’s leading specialist in food and agribusiness banking, one of our key strengths lies in our people who have a deep understanding of agriculture and are committed to adding long-term value for clients.

Our culture is unique, because every day our people work knowing that we are all playing our part in supporting our farmers to feed the world. We strive to create an open, balanced, and flexible workplace where people feel that they belong, can be open and honest and are supported…we are focused on growing each other.

About the role

The Markets Division is a pillar of Global Product Clients (LPG) within Wholesale & Rural (WR). Markets houses all of Rabobank’s financial markets related activities. The mission of Markets is to provide first class financial markets solutions, manage risk and add value to its stakeholders in a sustainable way. In Australia and New Zealand, its core activity is the sale of derivatives to both Wholesale and Rural clients. Trading is partly done locally but on most complex products London, NY, and HK are involved.

Rural Sales (AKA ARTM) in Australia is responsible for the sale of risk management products to the Country Banking (Major Agri Clients and Rural) customers of Rabobank Australia and New Zealand Group (RANZ).

As a salesperson (Director), this role is expected to deliver a high-quality professional level of client service that reflects the vision and values of Rabobank. They are expected to operate with the highest level of integrity and ethical standards as well as use their knowledge to contribute to the sustainable success of our customers. They will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of (new) products within their sphere of product expertise and trends within derivative markets.

Senior sales staff are expected to act as role models and assist with coaching and mentoring junior sales members to encourage an appropriate sales culture within the Rural Sales team. They may be required to assist in providing assistance on projects from time to time.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced markets professional to take ownership of and help lead Rabobank's rates business across Australia and New Zealand. Unlike larger banking environments where coverage can often be highly specialised, this role offers broad exposure across interest rate, FX and commodity markets, allowing you to further develop your product expertise and commercial acumen across multiple asset classes. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, banking teams and clients, with the opportunity to build capability within the business, mentor junior team members and make a tangible impact on strategy, revenue growth and client outcomes. Supported by a collaborative and highly experienced team, this role provides an excellent platform to deepen your markets expertise while contributing to the long-term success of Rabobank's agribusiness and rural clients.

Some of the Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Develop a pipeline of potential leads and opportunities by appropriately originating high value interest rate derivative transactions from you’re allocated client coverage region and segment.

  • Achieve this by developing a thorough understanding of your client’s price risk exposures and hedging needs and then providing a pro-active, needs based, interest rate price risk management service to a qualified portfolio of high value Major Agribusiness Clients (MAC).

  • Further to the above, using an awareness of current market and economic conditions, identify value-add hedging opportunities for clients while being always cognisant of our obligation to match client sophistication with product complexity (as per global and local product standards). During deal execution, ensure appropriate sales margins are applied to cover XVA charges and operational costs.

  • Be responsible for driving the rates business strategy and achieving the product revenue target.

  • Identify commodity and FX cross sell opportunities from allocated client portfolios.

  • Provide commodity and FX product coverage support when required.

  • Maintain effective client engagement throughout the deal life cycle to ensure the customer is appropriately hedged whilst identifying value adding opportunities.

What we are looking for

  • University Graduate in finance, accounting, business, economics, law, or other banking related discipline

  • RG146 Compliant & AFMA accreditation

  • Solid interest rate derivative sales experience with various domestic and/or international clients or FI’s

  • Strong commercial skills and excellent market awareness across FX, commodity as well as interest rate markets will also position you well for this role; however, these are not essential.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, sales, and time management skills and have a passion for outcomes.

  • Enjoy working as a team but also flourish individually. With a passion for quality and great attitude to work, you'll fit in nicely with our culture.

  • Advanced excel & PowerBI skills (desirable)
