As the Director of Accounting at Catalight, you will be responsible for overseeing all daily accounting operations and financial reporting for a family of non-profit companies, including Catalight Care Services, Easterseals Northern California and Easterseals Hawaii. This role involves directing the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit healthcare standards. You will also manage month-end and year-end close processes, supervise a team of accounting managers and staff, and serve as the key contact for annual audits. Core Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and grants accounting.
  • Direct and review the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit healthcare standards.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Serve as key contact for annual audit activities, supporting the preparation of audit schedules, Form 990, and other required filings.
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and grant reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Finance leadership and operations leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting managers and staff, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Recommend process improvements and support financial system enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee financial systems, recommending and implementing process improvements and technology upgrades to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure the organization has strong financial systems capable of supporting multiple funding streams, complex grant tracking, and donor reporting.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent to:

While we strive to minimize education and experience requirements because we recognize that such barriers have historically excluded talented individuals, we want to be transparent that this position does require a bachelor’s degree and CPA designation due to the nature of its responsibilities. This role is best suited for someone with demonstrated expertise in financial leadership. The ideal candidate will bring substantial progress experience in accounting, a proven ability to lead complex financial functions and teams, and a background in healthcare financial management. Experience managing external audits and ensuring regulatory compliance is also essential.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting and reporting systems (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Power BI, Tableau, Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage audits, and drive process improvement.

  • Demonstrated expertise in leading financial digital transformation through AI and robotic process automation (RPA), with strong knowledge of AI enabled ERP systems, automation in healthcare finance, and the ability to translate data-driven insights into strategic decisions.
  • Business acumen to understand broader operational impacts of financial decisions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively within the work environment, read and write using the primary language within the workplace.
  • Visual and auditory ability to work with clients, staff and others in the workplace continuously.
  • Frequent speaking and listening (25-75%) to clients, staff, and others in the workplace.
  • Utilize computer and cell phone for effective communication.

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The People & Performance Department must analyze DOJ/FBI live scan reports in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as fitness for the position.
  • Must be able to pass credit check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance through the Office of Inspector General.
  • Must attend any required training.

Time Type:

Full time

Compensation:$157,000.00 - $201,000.00
