What You'll Do:

  • Own German entity accounting end-to-end. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the German subsidiary. Deliver clean, consolidation-ready results back to Corporate Accounting, including multi-currency translation and intercompany reconciliations.

  • Deliver German statutory reporting. Prepare and file the statutory financial statements (HGB) for the German entity. Manage the local statutory audit and coordinate with the US group auditor on shared deliverables.

  • Execute German tax compliance, in partnership with Corporate Tax. Own the operational execution of German VAT filings, corporate income tax, and other local filings. Corporate Tax owns the strategy; you own the execution on the ground. Support transfer pricing documentation and cross-border cost-sharing agreements defined by Corporate Tax and their external advisors.

  • Execute Corporate's internal controls framework locally. The Corporate Controller owns the global controls design. You are accountable for operating those controls cleanly in Germany, evidencing them, and flagging where local nuance requires adaptation.

  • Partner with Business Systems on the local NetSuite footprint. Business Systems owns the ERP stack. You are the accounting voice in the room on German localization, multi-currency configuration, statutory reporting requirements, and any subsidiary-level process automation opportunities.

  • Coordinate with the Works Council (Betriebsrat). Partner with local HR and Legal on any accounting matters that intersect with Works Council agreements or German employment law, from payroll accounting to redundancy provisions.

  • Be the accounting face of the German entity. Serve as the primary accounting partner for local Legal, HR, Operations, and commercial teams. Represent the German entity accurately to Corporate leadership.

  • Build the German accounting function. Start lean, scale deliberately. Build a small local team and lean on third-party partners where it makes sense. Prepare the function to eventually cover broader EMEA scope as the business grows.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master's, MBA, or German equivalent (Diplom-Kaufmann/frau) preferred.

  • Wirtschaftsprüfer (WP) or Steuerberater strongly preferred. US CPA, UK CA (ICAEW), or other equivalent qualification also acceptable.

  • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3–5 years leading accounting for a subsidiary or multinational entity.

  • Have a deep knowledge of German HGB. Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; IFRS familiarity a plus.

  • Have experience with ASC 830 foreign currency accounting and multi-currency consolidation.

  • Have experience managing a German statutory audit, ideally with a Big Four or top-tier German audit firm.

  • ERP experience required; NetSuite strongly preferred.

  • You're native or professional fluency in German (C1/C2) and business-fluent English.

  • You have a familiarity with Betriebsrat (Works Council) coordination and German employment law as it intersects accounting is a plu

  • You're deeply grounded in German accounting. You know HGB cold and are comfortable moving between HGB and US GAAP (or IFRS). You've owned the full close and statutory reporting cycle for a German entity before.

  • You're fluent across languages and cultures - you're native or near-native German, business-fluent English. You're comfortable being the bridge between a Germany-based team and a US-based corporate function operating on Pacific time.

  • You're a pragmatic builder - you've built or scaled a subsidiary accounting function before. You default to lean teams, high leverage, and third-party partnerships where they add real value.

  • You're systems-comfortable - you've worked in a modern ERP environment (NetSuite a plus). You can partner effectively with a Business Systems team on implementation and optimization without needing to be an admin yourself.

  • You're cross-functionally credible - you're the person Legal, HR, and Operations trust to represent the entity accurately. You know when to escalate and when to solve locally.

  • You're an operator first, technician second - you have strong technical foundation, but you get energy from making the function actually run — not from theoretical debates about accounting treatment

  • You have a willingness to travel periodically to Santa Ana, CA and other Collectors locations.
