Job Summary

The Accounting Director is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of 2 entities located in Germany and Switzerland, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements (German/Switzerland gaap and IFRS ), and global policies. This role manages one senior accountant, supervises financial, tax, accounting reporting processes, and supports/implements strategic decisions, global processes/policies. This role reports to the Accounting Director of the Rest of world.



Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, trending analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with Local GAAP/IFRS and local tax, regulatory requirements, SOX controls.
  • Manage general ledger accuracy and reconciliation processes.
  • Oversee local tax filings, audits, and statutory reporting and liaise with global accounting teams (consolidation, tax).
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.

2. Accounting Operations

  • Supervise treasury activities (account reconciliation, posting, approval, excess of cash, request of fundings).
  • Manage transfer pricing calculations and invoicing
  • Supervise inventory accounting and provide adhoc analysis
  • Ensure month-end and year-end closing processes regarding mainly inventory, accounts payables, accounts receivable, payroll, royalties.
  • Monitor cash flow and financial transactions, approve payments and ensure payments in a timely manner of Payroll, taxes, licensors, logistics providers..
  • Oversee inventory and fixed asset management

3. Audit & Risk Management

  • Coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

4. Leadership & Team Management

  • Solve accounts payables, receivable, payroll once escalated
  • Solve escalated challenges raised by internal or external customers, third parties
  • Follow any IT, Netsuite tickets
  • Manage and mentor a senior accountant.
  • Assign tasks and monitor performance.
  • Provide training on accounting standards and systems.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Administrative management with the local General manager

5. Financial Analysis & Strategic Support

  • Provide financial analysis to support business decisions, global teams.
  • Assist any business partner with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Collaborate with senior management on financial planning initiatives.
  • Support cost control and efficiency improvements.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent certification

Experience

  • +12 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3–5+ years in a supervisory or managerial accounting role
  • Experience with financial reporting and audits in German GAAP
  • Used to work for a German affiliate company, member of an international group

Skills & Competencies

  • Fluent in German and English
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations in Germany
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
  • Advanced Excel skills


Working Conditions

  • Full-time position
  • Hybrid – based in Berlin (at the office aligned with the policy)
  • May require extended hours during closing periods or audits
