About the role

You will lead the regional accounting teams across our Japan, India, and Australia offices for a global organization with headquarters in the U.S. You will lead local accounting operations and teams through change while ensuring that the local needs of our organizational goals are met. As we expand globally, you may stand up accounting operations in new territories. You will assess the capabilities of the local accounting organization from a people, process, and systems perspective and outline and implement a clear plan to achieve the requirements outlined by leadership.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead all individual office accounting team leaders across the APAC region on all accounting matters, including month-end financial close, AP, AR, inventory accounting, tax compliance (direct and indirect), statutory reporting, and local treasury matters, taking a hands-on approach to ensure the highest possible quality of work.
  • Partner with parent company leadership and peers to ensure agreement on all primary activities, including understanding deadlines and deliverables.
  • Lead relevant month-end close and consolidation processes, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations and preparation and review of financial reporting deliverables and flux analyses, ensuring and accurate execution and coordination with the U.S. team.
  • Work with partners internally and externally to build an internal control environment, including the design and implementation of controls, and assess risks associated with current and new processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements (SOX).
  • Partner with internal and external advisors to ensure compliance with all tax (VAT, Income Tax, Transfer Pricing) and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Guide and develop a team of 6 professionals, establishing an environment of continuous improvement and outstanding internal customer service
  • Support the Global Controller in establishing local accounting operations across the region to support expansion plans, including the establishment of hiring plans, implementation of processes to support local business teams, and ensuring compliance with all local regulatory requirements.

In the role of Director of Accounting, APAC, you will report to the Global Controller.

About You

  • 8+ years of people management experience
  • Native to business level Japanese and English experience
  • Experience leading and setting up local operations across several multinational offices
  • Experience working at a U.S.-based company
  • Expertise with IFRS accounting standards. 
  • Experience working with Netsuite and SAP
  • Experience working in a SOX 404 compliant environment.
  • Experience working in entertainment or tech

The Crunchyroll Accounting team consists of over 60 professionals working in 13 offices across 9 countries. Our small teams in the APAC region handle local accounting tasks and support operations by collaborating with local teams and coordinating with U.S. leadership. As we continue to expand globally, it's important to strengthen the foundation at each subsidiary, ensuring consistency in processes, policies, and systems. Our leadership has set a bold global growth plan for the coming years, with the APAC region playing a crucial role in that strategy.
