Job Summary

The Director, Academic Affiliations and Strategic Partnerships plays a critical role in developing and maintaining advanced partnerships and initiatives with academic partners and other related intermediaries and organizations. This role will focus on nursing and strategic clinical partnerships. This role maintains oversight of local, regional, and national academic and workforce entry trends to anticipate needs and identify opportunities aligned with Memorial Hermann’s strategic plan. This role is responsible for working with internal and external key stakeholders to implement, sustain, and track highly aligned academic affiliations and strategic partnerships. This role will work closely with academic and community partners (to include Deans of colleges), Clinical Education, Legal, the Director of Workforce Development Programs, TA, and HR related to academic partnerships and highly aligned programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Masters degree in nursing or other related clinical field, required. Doctorate degree in nursing or other related clinical field, preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Current State of Texas licensure in clinical field, required.

Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing, preferred. 

                                   

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5)+ years of managerial experience.

  • Operational experience with cross-functional and matrixed environments.

  • Knowledge of school affiliations and compliance processes.

  • Experience in building and maintaining strong relationships and partnerships with academic institutions and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of higher education regulations, clinical accrediting bodies, and licensing board requirements.

  • Project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate needs and make decisions.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to meet independently with school deans, faculty, and other leaders to build and maintain positive academic partnerships.

  • Experience with apprenticeship programs, preferred.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Oversees Academic Affiliation agreements and tracking of related metrics.

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic academic partnerships and channel strategies to support highly aligned programs, in partnership with TA.

  • Design a framework and implement processes to establish, maintain, and grow strategic academic partnerships.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with academic partners (universities, colleges, and high schools) and other relevant external stakeholders (intermediaries, state and federal agencies, regulatory boards, and accreditating bodies) to cultivate partnership opportunities and find creative solutions to clinical placements and related workforce challenges. These partnerships will predominately focus on highly aligned clinical programs to support (i.e., longitudinal placements, Dedicated Education Units, shared faculty models, apprenticeships, work-based learning) MHHS needs.

  • Establish and track programmatic metrics to assess the success of partnerships and strategies.

  • Identify and outline gaps and develop creative solutions to support growth of highly aligned academic partnerships and strategic initiatives.

  • Partner with the Memorial Hermann Foundation, Government Relations, Clinical Education, and HR to identify, prepare, and submit grants to support relevant Memorial Hermann needs.

  • Meet regularly with leaders (i.e., Deans of colleges) of highly aligned academic partners to maintain relationships and track shared outcomes.

  • Partner with HR and other key internal/external stakeholders to expand the use of apprenticeships to grow our healthcare workforce.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards of providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and our workforce.
