We're seeking someone to join our team as an experienced taxonomist to assist with the development and management of taxonomies used within NFR. You will play a leading role in the design and development of an integrated suite of categories/taxonomies used within the Non-Financial Risk domain. You will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders across the organization to design and deliver a broad range of category types. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to learn about Non-Financial Risk within the financial services industry.
You will be able to build your skills by working with other taxonomists, information scientists, and our Technology partners to deliver industry-leading solutions, including the adoption of machine learning and GenAI. Your work will directly support capabilities like semantic search, knowledge graphs, recommendation engines and question/answering capabilities.
As an experienced taxonomist you will help colleagues to develop and implement taxonomies in support of various business objectives.
In the Legal & Compliance division, we assist the Firm in achieving its business objectives by facilitating and overseeing the Firm's management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk.
The Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Department forms the second line of defense for management of the firm's non-financial risks, which include Financial Crimes, market manipulation or abuse and Operational risk.
NFR Data & Analytics is a function in the Legal and Compliance Division responsible for
designing and optimizing surveillance models, approaches and tools using advanced analytical techniques like supervised and unsupervised machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and evolving techniques like graph analytics. The surveillances and other tools help identify suspicious and/or illegal behaviors like money laundering, market manipulation, insider trading, unfair sales or trading practices and other financial crimes.

What you'll do in the role:

Technical knowledge:

  • Proficiency in taxonomy management tools such as Smartlogic, PoolParty, and Topbraid.

  • Experience with metadata standards and information architecture.

  • Knowledge of semantic technologies, SKOS modeling, and experience using SPARQL.

Financial and Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of financial terminology and data structures.

  • Direct experience in the financial services industry or in an information science framework.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the financial services sector.

Analytical and Data Skills:

  • Experience in business/data analysis and concept/entity extraction to support taxonomy development.

  • Experience in the categorization and use of business data in support of business processes such as risk management, vendor management, financial management, or procurement.

Project and Change Management:

  • Experience in taxonomy change management and associated governance processes.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in library science, information science, computer science or related discipline

  • Experience with relevant taxonomy management tools

  • 5+ years of taxonomy management experience in a corporation, government body or relevant organization

  • Demonstrable experience in developing new taxonomies and managing changes to existing ones

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in data management tools and software.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
