The Toronto Star is seeking a Digital Producer who thrives on speed, accuracy and innovation to join our Home and Live team. Working with editors and reporters across the newsroom, the Digital Producer will help identify, enhance and distribute our best journalism on digital platforms. Your strong news judgement and enhanced digital skills will help manage an engaging and lively homepage, app, and social media feeds, giving our stories power and impact. The successful candidate thrives within the urgency of a live news environment. The digital producer will report to the digital editor in this role.
News happens 24/7: This role requires the ability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
What you'll do:
- Shape the homepage: Curate and edit the lineups on thestar.com and our mobile app, with audience engagement in mind. Offer new material off the news of the day – or in advance of the news – and suggest and implement creative ways to enhance The Star’s journalism.
- Tell stories creatively: Produce packages that use visuals, multimedia, and social media to grab readers’ attention.
- Run live coverage: Take charge of rolling files for breaking news (weather, elections, major news events), keeping coverage sharp and timely.
- Social media: Help run the Star's social media accounts with intention, crafting copy that stops the scroll and drives reader engagement.
- Work with data: Use analytics, SEO, and platform insights to shape coverage, track success and make recommendations for the most effective timing of story release.
- Be a team player: Create and contribute to an environment of growth, demonstrate enthusiasm and support colleagues on digital best practices.
- Uphold the core values of the Toronto Star and the Atkinson principles.
This is a unionized position.
Salary: $61,107.97 - $74,794.65

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven track record at a high-traffic news outlet, with expertise in digital-first journalism.
- Strong editorial judgment and capacity to edit quickly.
- Proficiency in publishing tools, analytics, and social media.
- Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining accuracy and fairness.
