What You’ll Do:
- Develop adaptive process control frameworks for high-mix, high-volume production, utilizing advanced analytics to drive next-generation control strategies.
- Work hands-on to develop, optimize, and document device microfabrication processes — including additive (e.g., sputtering, electroplating), subtractive (e.g., laser machining, chemical etching), and assembly (e.g., heterogenous integration, bonding) techniques.
- Lead PFMEA activities for critical process flows; support DFMEA and integrated device/process failure analyses to drive both design and manufacturing robustness.
- Develop process maturity matrices, process graphs, and process libraries, ensuring effective management of the complexity, risk, and evolution from R&D to manufacturing.
- Develop and deploy process monitoring and health indicator systems to enable closed-loop learning and data-driven process management.
- Contribute to developing a manufacturing execution system (MES) and other digital tools that enable real-time tracking of in-process materials and data, as part of the Matter Compiler’s integrated control system.
- Drive structured root cause investigations to eliminate defects and unlock continuous improvement in both process performance and product quality.
- Partner cross-functionally with Design, AI/ML, Systems Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to establish process control excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
- Mentor, guide, and contribute to the growth and hiring of cross-functional teams.
What You’ll Need:
- A graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Operations Engineering, or a related field, and 15+ years of industry experience are required.
- Deep proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and trend analysis, with fluency in tools like JMP, Minitab, SAS, or Python-based analytics.
- Expertise in process design, optimization, and risk management, including mastery of DOE, FMEA/PFMEA, and root cause analysis methods.
- Hands-on experience with microfabrication processes (e.g., vacuum deposition, chemical plating, electropolishing, patterning, bonding) and characterization techniques (e.g., profilometry, CMM, SEM/EDS, XRF, X-ray CT).
- Strong foundation in materials, chemistry, and advanced microfabrication processes, including those inspired by or diverging from traditional semiconductor manufacturing.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a passion for mentorship, team building, and organizational scaling.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled manufacturing and comfort collaborating with AI and software development teams is a plus.
- Experience with modeling tools for designing complex processes, such as Unified Modeling Language (UML) and/or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), is a plus.
- Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or comparable operational excellence frameworks is a plus.

What We Do
Atomic Machines is redefining humanity’s relationship with matter. We see a future where our tools will allow us to reorganize matter at the atomic level at will, where we will go from bits to atoms for any object or machine that can be designed in alignment with physical laws. We have begun our journey with the development of a robotic manufacturing platform capable of making an entirely new class of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices. We are well funded and have exceptionally strong product/market fit and a clear go-to-market path for the device we will make first with our platform. Our platform breaks traditional manufacturing paradigms and constraints, enabling inexpensive rapid prototyping as well as large scale manufacturing with highly compelling economics.
Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team working on a massive world-changing mission. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its early days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.
