Company Overview
Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing an autonomous gun turret using advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely detect, track, and neutralize enemy drones.
With an engineering-first culture, ACS values technical excellence and innovation. Backed by our founders’ successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a combined $180M in 2022, we are committed to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop will have a real-world impact.
About The Role
We are looking for a Digital Power Electronics Firmware Engineer to develop embedded firmware for the advanced power conversion systems at the heart of our autonomous defense platforms. You will work at the intersection of firmware and power electronics, developing control systems for DC-DC converters, power distribution, and energy management that enable efficient, reliable operation in demanding field environments.
What You’ll Do
Design and implement embedded firmware in C/C++ for digital control of power electronics systems, including DC-DC converters, voltage regulation, and power distribution.
Use simulation tools such as SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink to model, validate, and optimize control systems prior to hardware implementation.
Partner with electrical engineers to bring up and validate power electronics hardware; perform lab debugging and validation under various load conditions.
Improve efficiency, stability, and thermal performance of power systems through firmware optimization and continuous iteration.
What You’ll Need
3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development with power electronics systems.
Experience with digital control of DC-DC converters, inverters, or power management systems; strong understanding of analog and digital power systems.
Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and experience with microcontrollers such as STM32, TI C2000, or similar.
Familiarity with implementing control algorithms such as PID loops (including anti-windup), as well as PWM and phase-shift control for power topologies.
Familiarity with simulation tools including SPICE, MATLAB, and Simulink.
You’ll Stand Out
Experience with digital power control loops and compensation techniques.
Familiarity with high-efficiency power design and EMI considerations.
Experience with battery systems or energy management systems.
Background in defense, aerospace, or robotics systems.
Experience implementing advanced digital control techniques, including PID tuning, anti-windup strategies, and PWM/phase-shift modulation for power systems.

What We Do
Allen Control Systems is a defense technology company for a new era of drone warfare and to completely change battlefield economics. ACS is developing counter-drone robotic gun systems targeted at neutralizing attacking drone swarms, drones that are pre-programmed with AI, and drones that are non-jammable. ACS was created to lower the cost per kill of a drone to a few dollars. We do this by combining cutting-edge hardware and software that allows us to point an inexpensive gun that already exists in the field more accurately than anyone ever has before. ACS is a remote organization, with our HQ in Austin, Texas, and an office in Alexandria, Va. If you're passionate about our mission, we’d love to hear from you.
