Job Summary/Description:
The Digital Journalist is responsible for producing daily web content, including written stories and video, and assisting with other digital content when assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Develop, research, and pitch original, compelling, and relevant daily local news stories.
- Respond immediately to breaking news assignments and adapt quickly to changing editorial priorities.
- Function as a one-person band by operating professional video cameras, lighting, and audio equipment to gather high-quality visual and sound elements.
- Conduct professional, concise, and informative interviews.
- Write scripts for news packages, voice-overs, and teases in clear, conversational broadcast style, adhering to strict time limits.
- Perform non-linear editing of video and audio elements to create visually engaging and coherent news reports.
- Write compelling, Search Engine Optimized (SEO) headlines and summary text for all published video streams and stories to maximize online visibility and traffic.
- Verify the accuracy of all facts, names, and information before air.
- Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, libel laws, and station standards and policies.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- On-camera presentation and verbal communication skills.
- Written communication skills. Proficiency in AP Style.
- Proficiency with non-linear video editing software.
- Technical proficiency operating field camera equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet rapid-fire deadlines under pressure.
