We are champions for Southern Colorado. We expose problems, provide solutions, and highlight progress to help make our community an even better place to live and prosper.  This position is ideal for a journalist who understands what audiences are searching for, and enjoys finding innovative ways to tell stories online. You'll work alongside our newsroom to publish timely, engaging content across FOX21's digital platforms while helping grow our local audience through strong storytelling, smart content decisions, and data-driven strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Publish and update stories on FOX21's digital platforms with speed, accuracy, and urgency.
  • Monitor breaking news, social media, public safety channels, and other news sources to identify developing stories and opportunities for original reporting.
  • Write clear, compelling headlines and summaries that maximize audience engagement while following SEO best practices.
  • Produce a mix of breaking news, enterprise stories, weather, sports, and community-focused content throughout the day.
  • Continuously update developing stories as new information becomes available.
  • Use audience analytics and performance data to make informed content decisions and optimize story presentation.
  • Package stories with photos, video, graphics, and other multimedia elements that enhance the user experience.
  • Help identify opportunities for exclusive digital content and collaborate with reporters, producers, photographers, and anchors on enterprise coverage.
  • Promote news content across social media platforms and coordinate digital coverage with on-air broadcasts.
  • Stay current on emerging digital trends, audience behaviors, and best practices in online journalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience in digital journalism, newsroom operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to work quickly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a solid understanding of AP Style.
  • Experience writing engaging, search-friendly headlines and packaging content for digital audiences.
  • Ability to independently research, verify information, and produce accurate news content.
  • Comfortable balancing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across newsroom teams.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles, audience metrics, and digital publishing tools.
  • Experience using Google Analytics or similar audience measurement platforms. Knowledge of Chartbeat, Adobe Premiere, or other digital editing software is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving digital workflows.

COMPENSATION RANGE:
Annual Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 depending on experience
