Digital Accessibility Specialist / Web Content Manager – WCAG & Section 508 – Phoenix (Hybrid, 1 Day/Week Onsite)

A state veterans agency needs its digital front door to work for aging veterans, visually and hearing-impaired users, and assistive-technology users, and this role owns that mission. You'll be the agency's accessibility authority: not a ticket-queue remediator, but the subject matter expert who sets the standard, audits against it, fixes what fails, and teaches everyone else to build it right the first time.

What you'll do: run WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA audits (automated tooling + manual JAWS/NVDA/VoiceOver and keyboard testing) · remediate PDFs and media for screen-reader compatibility · rewrite dense benefits content in plain language · administer the CMS and enforce the state digital style guide · train contributors and build accessibility checklists that prevent errors at the source
What you'll need: Bachelor's degree (required) · hands-on WCAG 2.1/2.2 and Section 508 experience · screen-reader testing fluency (JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver) · semantic HTML5/CSS · PDF remediation skills · strong plain-language writing · CMS administration
