A Brief Overview
The dietitian is responsible for the nutritional care of the patient within an assigned area of practice.
What you will do

  • Performs an accurate assessment within a timely manner of the patient’s nutritional status including, but not limited to: obtaining and interpreting information in terms of the patient’s nutritional needs, patient/family level of knowledge, ability and readiness to learn about nutrition requirements, cultural/religious needs, and physical/mental limitations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific factors and performs satisfactorily related to patient’s age, infant through geriatrics, as noted on unit specific guidelines and competencies.
  • Plans the delivery of medical nutrition therapy and implements an individualized outcomes based nutritional care plan specific to patient’s needs with clearly defined, measurable goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide medical nutrition therapy to patients/family based on assessment needs.
  • Ensures continuity of nutrition care through communication with relevant care providers at mission and discharge.
  • Helps to effectively transition patients to a new care environment.
  • Documents all phases of the nutrition care process in a complete and concise manner. Develops and interprets patient education classes and/or materials.
  • Demonstrates ability to educate the public by planning and presenting lectures related to nutrition therapy and community nutrition.
  • Providing guidance to dietetic assistant in identifying and assigning patients to a nutritional risk level using screening/assessment policies and procedures.
  • Functions as an integral member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team as evidenced by active participation in team conferences, multidisciplinary care planning, and ongoing communication of outreach contracts.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's
  • Some College Dietetic Internship or similar Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved program required, unless already registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Registered Dietitian - Commission on Dietetic Registration within 180 Days
  • Licensed Dietitian - Licensing Board Licensed in the state based off job assignment as a Dietitian. within 180 Days

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years Experience and advanced certifications in specialty area
