POSITION SUMMARY
The Dietary Administrative Assistant supports the day-to-day administrative operations of the hospital's Dietary department. This role provides general office and clerical support, handles cashier duties for food service areas, and maintains patient menu systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness. This role works under the direction of the Dietary Manager and helps keep the department's paperwork, systems, and daily operations organized and up to date. Duties may be adjusted or expanded by the Dietary Manager or facility administration as operational needs require.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides general administrative and clerical support to the Dietary Manager and dietary team.
- Handles cashier duties for cafeteria/retail food service, including processing payments and balancing the register.
- Maintains and updates the patient menu system, ensuring menus are accurate, current, and reflect any diet changes.
- Enters and updates patient meal selections, diet orders, and related information into the dietary/menu software system.
- Helps keep department records, logs, and files organized and up to date.
- Assists with preparing correspondence, reports, and other documents as requested by the Dietary Manager.
- Answers phones, greets visitors, and routes inquiries for the Dietary department as needed.
- Helps coordinate communication between dietary staff, nursing units, and patients regarding meal service.
- Assists with ordering, inventory tracking, and other administrative tasks related to department supplies as needed.
- Provides general support to kitchen and dietary staff wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or facility leadership.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or experience in office administration a plus.
- Prior experience in an administrative, clerical, or cashier role; healthcare or food service setting preferred but not required.
- Comfortable learning and working with menu/dietary software systems and point-of-sale/cashier systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with the Dietary Manager and department staff.
