The DGR Regional Manager is responsible for the overall performance, leadership, and operational effectiveness of all Donated Goods Retail functions within an assigned region. This includes retail stores, outlet operations, e-commerce, salvage/recycling, attended donation centers (ADCs), and transportation/logistics.

This role is accountable for regional financial performance, operational execution, safety compliance, and team development across all assigned functions. The Regional Manager ensures that all aspects of the donated goods lifecycle, from donation acquisition to final sale or salvage operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with Goodwill’s mission.

The Regional Manager may be assigned any combination of retail, outlet, e-commerce, and logistics operations depending on organizational needs.

REPORTS TO: 

Director of Retail

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operations Leadership (Multi-Unit)
  • Direct and oversee all assigned operations including: retail stores, outlet operations, e-commerce, salvage/recycling operations, ADCs and transportation and logistics
  • Ensure all locations operate efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with company standards
  • Conduct regular site visits, audits, and performance reviews
  • Provide hands-on leadership and problem-solving support across locations 
  1. Financial Performance & Business Management
  • Achieve regional financial targets including revenue growth, expense control, and margin improvement 
  • Analyze monthly P&L statements and operational reports
  • Identify trends and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for assigned areas
  • Drive productivity and efficiency across all operations 
  • Hold assigned managers accountable for understanding and managing the financial and operational performance of their locations
  1. Donated Goods Flow & Supply Chain
  • Ensure efficient movement of goods from donation to transportation to processing to retail/outlet/e-commerce/salvage
  • Oversee: truck routing and scheduling, donation volume growth strategies (ADCs, pickups, partnerships), and inventory flow and product distribution across locations 
  • Minimize waste and maximize value recovery (retail, ecommerce, salvage)
  • Ensure proper handling and protection of donated goods 
  1. Merchandising & Sales Execution
  • Drives sales through effective: merchandising standards, product flow and availability, and pricing execution
  • Support managers in achieving sales targets through data-driven decisions
  • Ensure consistency in store presentations and customer experience
  • Align outlet and salvage strategies to maximize total revenue 
  1. Team Leadership & Development 
  • Directly supervise store, outlet, e-commerce, salvage/logistics leadership as assigned
  • Recruit, select, onboard, coach, develop, and retain effective management staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations and create development plans
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and mission alignment
  • Ensure managers are effectively training and developing their teams
  • Identify leadership potential, develop internal talent, and support succession planning for key retail leadership positions
  1. Customer & Donor Experience
  • Ensure a high-quality experience across retail customers, donors and community partners
  • Resolve escalated customer and donor concerns
  • Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming environments at all locations
  • Support donation growth through strong donor engagement 
  1. Safety & Compliance 
  • Ensure compliance with: OSHA, DOT, and all applicable regulations and company safety policies and procedures
  • Oversee: monthly safety inspections, equipment use and training, and vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all operations 
  • Ensure incidents are properly reported and addressed
  1. Operational Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure adherence to: HR policies and procedures, cash handling and financial controls, and loss prevention and asset protection standards
  • Conduct audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Safeguard company assets, including donated goods
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of company policies and procedures across all locations; address violations promptly through coaching, documentation, and disciplinary action in partnership with HR
  1. Strategic Planning & Growth
  • Develop short and long term strategies for: sales growth, donation growth, and operational efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for: new donation sites, expanded partnerships, and process improvements 
  • Support innovation aligned with organizational goals
  1. Communication & Coordination 
  • Conduct regular meetings with management teams
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Mission Services 
  • Ensure alignment between retail operations and organizational priorities 
  1. Other
  • Attends conferences and seminars; monitors publications and other sources to stay informed of developments in retail, logistics, operations and management practices; attends required training sessions and meetings; and completes the minimum required professional development hours per year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the department and Agency mission.

  • Frequently operate a motor vehicle and travel between assigned locations. 
  • Regularly use computers, mobile devices, and other office equipment.

 

The primary work environment is:

  • Primarily retail and office environments, and could also include warehouse and trucks.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: 

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Operations, Logistics, Marketing, or a related field and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in retail, logistics, operations, or a related field, including at least two (2) years of multi-unit leadership experience;

OR

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in retail, logistics, operations, or a related field, including at least four (4) years of multi-unit leadership experience.

Experience leading managers and overseeing multiple operational locations is required. Experience with donated goods retail, high-volume retail, logistics, distribution, or other complex multi-site operations is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license required. Must have reliable transportation or otherwise be able to travel regularly among assigned locations and to meetings, conferences, and other business-related activities as required.

Screenings: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record review, and any additional screenings required by agency policy.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Strong business and financial acumen, including the ability to understand budgets, P&L statements, labor costs, productivity, and operational performance. 
  • Ability to analyze financial and operational data, identify trends and root causes, and implement effective corrective actions. 
  • Strong multi-unit leadership, coaching, and management development skills. 
  • Ability to establish expectations, hold managers accountable, and address performance concerns consistently and effectively. 
  • Knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory/product flow, customer service, and loss prevention. 
  • Understanding of logistics, transportation, and donated-goods operations or ability to develop proficiency in assigned operational areas. 
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs across multiple locations. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate expectations and performance results clearly. 
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and operational controls. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and organizational levels. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS systems, scheduling software, HRIS, and operational reporting systems.

Skills Required
