Who You Will Work With:  

As a Cloud Solutions Architect, Principal, you will be part of the DevSecOps & Cloud Engineering group. Working closely with the other members of a leadership triad, the Product Manager and Tech Lead, you will share in the accountability for leading a team of platform engineers building the next generation of platforms at Interac.  

Our vision for our platforms is to provide “zero touch”, at will deployment for our software development community. We are assembling the platform from cloud-native infrastructure, networking, and services, as well as cloud-based IaC and DevSecOps tooling, treating the software developers in our product lines as the primary user who we aim to make happy. 

The vacant Cloud Solutions Architect, Principle will report to the Leader, Platform Delivery. Our ideal candidate is someone who started out in software development and later moved into platform automation role. You will be able to connect well with, and understand the pain of, the software development community at Interac, through a bond of shared experience. On the other hand, you bring with you a deep understanding of current cloud automation tooling that you acquired through hands-on delivery of cloud and/or DevSecOps platform solutions. 

At this point in your career, you are strong enough on the technology that you feel ready to take on a leadership role in the delivery of platform automation for a software development community. You are up for a new challenge, to become an ambassador for platform cloud automation and DevSecOps to the software development community, establishing new practices for engaging that community, working directly within it to understand and document its challenges, and translating what you find into designs that can be quickly and effectively delivered by you platform team. 

 

What You Will Do:  

  • Leading a team in a shared responsibility model with a Product Manager and Tech Lead, together accountable for the value and usability of what the team delivers 
  • Understanding developer pain points and addressing them effectively 

  • Establishing and maintaining ongoing relationships with the development community 

  • Creating and managing a constant feedback loop with software developers to understand the usability, viability, and value of what is being built for them by the platform team 

  • Designing reusable components for platforms using DevSecOps and cloud components 

  • Hands-on contribution to automation of the platform (~20% of your time coding) 

  • Keeping our tooling and processes up to date with our evolving needs, and improving them with deep telemetry instrumentation, dashboards, and deployment automation 

  • Implementing and maintaining system configurations and baselines to support secure application development and software control best practices and standards 

  • Contribute to a cross-functional support structure with Platform and App Ops teams 

    What You Bring: 

    • Eligibility to work for Interac in Canada in a full-time capacity 

    • Software delivery experience, especially on backend API development  (2+ years working as a software developer or in a similar capacity) 

    • Experience implementing platform automation for software development with tooling native to cloud platforms (3+ years working in a DevSecOps, SRE, or similar role) 

    • Experience in application or platform architecture or design, where a team of technical people looked to you for leadership and guidance on solutioning and decision-making 

    • No fear to engage software development teams, treat them as clients, and integrate into them discover the problems they have at the platform level, and forge partnerships between them and your platform team to solve those problems quickly and effectively 

    • Enthusiasm for solving problems with other technical people, working together to identify problems, hypothesize possible solutions, try them out, and ruthlessly judge the results using hard data that supports or invalidates the hypotheses 

    • Analytical and creative flare, enabling you to turn what you discover from engaging software developers in direct interaction into designs that squads of platform engineers can implement quickly and easily 

    • Technical skills: 

    • Understanding of software development and design patterns 

    • Experience in cloud technologies such as AWS 

    • Experience in pipeline development 

    • Knowledge of scripting with things like Bash, Python, and APIs 

    • Experience with IaC tools such as Ansible and Terraform playbooks 

    • Experience with container technologies such as Docker 

    • Knowledge of container orchestration tools like Kubernetes

      The hiring range for this position is $158K-$170K, and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac’s commitment goes beyond compensation.
