Job Description:
The Principal Automation & DevOps Architect is responsible for defining, designing, and evolving the technical automation architecture across development, testing, and DevOps platforms.
This role acts as the highest technical authority for automation solutions, ensuring that enterprise automation standards are technically sound, scalable, secure, and future‑ready. The role is hands‑on where needed, leads complex designs and POCs, and acts as a mentor to automation and DevOps engineers.
This role does not own delivery commitments or project management but ensures that what is delivered is architecturally correct.
Responsibilities:
Architecture & Standards
Define and maintain enterprise automation reference architectures covering:
Test Automation (UI, API, integration, performance)
CI/CD and pipeline architecture
Environment and test data automation
Own technical standards for:
Automation frameworks
Tooling selection and usage
Coding standards and best practices
Design cross‑domain automation patterns spanning Development, Test, and DevOps.
Hands-on Technical Leadership
Lead and design complex automation solutions for high‑risk or high‑scale programs.
Drive POCs, pilots, and evaluations of new tools, frameworks, and approaches.
Provide deep diagnostic support for complex automation failures or systemic issues.
Review and approve solution designs for major initiatives.
DevOps & Platform Enablement
Define architectural standards for:
CI/CD pipelines
Infrastructure as Code
Environment provisioning and configuration automation
Ensure automation solutions align with:
Security standards
Resilience and scalability requirements
Regulatory and compliance needs.
Mentorship & Enablement
Act as technical mentor for senior automation and DevOps engineers.
Shape technical career paths and communities of practice.
Drive engineering excellence and modern automation practices (TDD, BDD, Shift‑Left).
8+ years of experience in automation, DevOps, or software engineering
5+ years hands‑on programming experience (Java, Python, Groovy, etc.)
Strong background in:
Test automation frameworks (UI, API, E2E)
CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, Bamboo, Gitlab, TeamCity, Github, ArgoCD Git, Kubernetes, Docker, Vault etc.)
Cloud and IaC (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
Strong understanding of:
Distributed systems and microservices
API, data, and integration testing
DORA Metrics
Release methodlogy (Blue-Green Deployments, Feature Flag)
Proven experience as a technical architect or automation lead on large‑scale enterprise platforms
Excellent ability to influence technical direction without formal authority
