Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a DevOps Intern to join the Data Center Power and Control ZPE Systems Team in Fremont, CA. The DevOps Intern will support the team responsible for operating and optimizing GitLab platforms and CI/CD runner infrastructure used by engineers across the United States, Brazil, and India. This role provides hands-on experience with enterprise software delivery systems, cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, and performance analytics. The intern will help build visibility into system health and engineering productivity through dashboards, metrics, and reporting. They will assist with analyzing CI/CD pipeline performance, monitoring infrastructure utilization, documenting operational processes, and identifying opportunities for automation and continuous improvement. This position offers exposure to large-scale development platforms and modern DevOps practices that enable engineers to efficiently build, test, and deliver software.
- Assist the DevOps team with building dashboards, monitoring platform performance, and analyzing operational metrics for GitLab infrastructure and CI/CD systems.
- Instrument the parts we watch less closely today, such as Gitaly, Postgres, Redis and object storage.
- Help tune alerts so that what fires is worth acting on.
- Track runner capacity and utilization, and flag where concurrency or cost needs attention.
- Write and update runbooks so what you learn stays with the team.
Education:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, as well as recent graduates, are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- May require 0-1 year of general work experience.
- Previous coursework, laboratory work, technical projects, or internships engineering, or computer science are a plus.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Comfortable working in Linux and on the command line.
- Some scripting experience in Python, Bash or Go.
- Familiar with Git, and with the basic ideas behind CI/CD.
- Curious about how systems behave and fail and interested in measuring them.
- Able to write clearly in English, since much of this work is documentation.
Good to have: - Any exposure to Prometheus, Grafana or similar tooling.
- Any exposure to Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience writing a GitLab CI pipeline, even a small one.
