The Role
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deploy containerized applications on Azure, manage infrastructure as code, and administer production MongoDB. Implement monitoring, logging, security hygiene, and audit support while participating in on-call incident response. Automate workflows using Python or Bash and AI-assisted development tools, manage DNS and version control, and collaborate with distributed development teams.

About SmartDocs SmartDocs is an AI-powered Source-to-Pay platform helping enterprises digitize and automate their procurement and finance operations. As we scale our platform, we're building a strong DevOps function to keep our infrastructure fast, secure, and reliable.
The Role
You've moved past "I followed the runbook" and you're now at "I wrote the runbook, and then improved it." This role sits between our Jr. DevOps Engineer and our DevOps Manager/Lead — you're not new to this, but you're not running the whole show either. You take ownership of real pipelines, real environments, and real incidents, with a manager who trusts you to make the call and only wants to hear about it if it's actually on fire.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines for trunk-based development, working directly with development teams across time zones.
- Deploy and manage containerized applications on Azure (AKS preferred) — you're comfortable enough with Docker and Kubernetes that "just restart the pod" isn't your only move.
- Design and maintain infrastructure as code (Terraform or Bicep) — provisioning, environment consistency, and cleaning up the drift nobody wants to own.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as part of your actual daily workflow — not a novelty, a habit. Scripting, troubleshooting, and automation should be faster because of it.
- Operate production MongoDB — routine administration, backup/restore testing, and enough comfort with Mongo Atlas to not panic during a replica set election.
- Implement and maintain monitoring and centralized logging (Datadog, Site24x7, ELK, Splunk, or similar) so problems get caught before clients notice them.
- Take a share of the on-call rotation and run incident response for your piece of the system — writing postmortems that name the actual cause.
- Support security hygiene — patching, secrets, certificates, vulnerability follow-up — and help produce evidence for SOC 2 / ISO 27001 / GDPR audits when asked.
- Manage the unglamorous but critical stuff: domain/DNS (Cloudflare/GoDaddy), version control hygiene, ticket discipline in Jira.
Who We're Looking For
- 1–5 years in DevOps/SRE/infrastructure roles, with real production ownership — not just POCs and sandbox environments.
- Solid Azure fundamentals: compute, networking basics, IAM, cost visibility. AWS/GCP exposure is a plus, not a substitute.
- Hands-on with Docker and Kubernetes in a real deployment context.
- Working CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Bitbucket CI/CD.
- Comfortable with Python or Bash for automation — you'd rather write a script than repeat a manual step three times.
- Some exposure to MongoDB administration; Mongo Atlas familiarity is a plus.
- Familiarity with Git-based version control and ticketing tools (Jira or similar).
Must-Have (Non-Negotiable)
- Practical, current fluency with AI-assisted development tools — Claude Code specifically preferred, GitHub Copilot or equivalent acceptable. If you haven't used one to actually get work done faster, this isn't the right seat yet.
- Genuine curiosity about how AI tooling changes DevOps work — we're an AI company, and we expect that to show up in how you work, not just what you build.
Why SmartDocs
You'll get real ownership of pipelines and environments that matter, mentorship from a manager who's actually run production, and room to grow into more scope as you prove it out. Fast-growing AI product company, real infrastructure problems, no busywork theater.
