Compensation

The compensation target range for this role is:

$123,200 - $144,900

Job Summary

Purple is seeking a proactive DevOps Engineer Lead with a proven track record in managing DevOps teams and implementing robust infrastructure and deployment pipelines. As a DevOps Engineer Lead, you will oversee a team of skilled DevOps engineers, providing leadership in cloud infrastructure management, automation, and CI/CD pipeline development. Your role will involve hands-on technical contributions, team management, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that our infrastructure and operational processes align with business needs and engineering goals. You will lead the efforts to optimize deployment processes, enhance system reliability, and maintain high-quality infrastructure, ensuring scalable and secure cloud environments.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • AWS Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure using best practices (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, VPC, IAM, EKS, etc.). 

  • CI/CD Pipelines: Develop, implement, and maintain automated pipelines for building, testing, and deploying applications using tools such as Jenkins, Github Actions, etc. 

  • Cloud Security: Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, including IAM roles, encryption, and security monitoring. 

  • Automation & Scripting: Write infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, and automate routine tasks with scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Ruby. 

  • Monitoring & Logging: Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system performance and reliability, using tools like CloudWatch or ELK stack. 

  • Collaboration: Work closely with development and product teams to streamline software release processes and support ongoing application development and deployment. 

  • Incident Management: Lead efforts in diagnosing and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure-related incidents, working to resolve issues and implementing preventative measures. 

  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DevOps engineers and contribute to the development of team skills. 

 

Required Skills, Education, Experience 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. 

  • At least 4+ years of hands-on experience managing cloud-based infrastructure on AWS, including key services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda, and EKS. 

  • At least 2+ years of experience in people management in a technology field. 

  • Extensive experience with DevOps tools for CI/CD (Jenkins, Github, Gitlab), automation, and configuration management (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible). 

  • Proficient in scripting languages (Python, Shell, or similar) to automate tasks and infrastructure management. 

  • Strong experience in implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation. 

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS, ECS) for containerization and orchestration. 

  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and vulnerability management. 

  • Proficient in setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack. 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and lead projects. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues. 

  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies. 

  • Experience with serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, Step Functions). 

  • Knowledge of disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) architectures.
