Position Overview

The Development Manager provides administrative, event, and project support, and assists with the operations, database management, donor stewardship, communications and marketing efforts of the Development Department. This is the perfect position for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants the challenge and the many personal rewards of working in a highly entrepreneurial, mission-driven organization. This position reports to the Director of Development.

Job Description

Responsibilities 


Development/Database Operations Support
 

  • Process gifts and record pledges. 
  • Assist with database updates, clean-up, and other efforts as needed. 
  • Generate monthly pledge reminders as necessary 
  • Process development-related mailings 
  • Support the fidelity of development data in Salesforce through regular data updates  
  • Prepare correspondence, and other administrative services as assigned. 


Marketing and Communications Support
 

  • Support communications efforts including but not limited to reviewing e-news content, newsletters, and other marketing content  
  • Lead social media efforts 
  • Gather, prepare, and archive photos, video, and interviews for outreach materials 
  • Design collateral materials such as brochures, programs, invitations, and flyers (Canva, Microsoft Publisher, InDesign) 
  • Manage website updates 


Events Support
 

  • Support all Development events including annual gala 
  • Support event sponsorship planning, outreach, and follow-up for all events 
  • Manage the events calendar including national and local events and external partnerships 
  • Manage event spreadsheets including revenue stages, attendance, benefits, and historical  
  • Ensure accurate event campaign data in Salesforce 
  • Manage event email and direct mail communication 
  • Secure necessary vendors, obtain quotes, secure contracts, and monitor vendor performance 
  • Manage staffing plans and train AmeriCorps members, staff, and volunteers on roles as necessary 
  • Maintain record of materials, plans, and documents for future reference 
  • Support post event management including thank you letters, database update with donor notes, event notes, vendors paid, gifts/sponsorships collected 


Cross-functional development support
 

  • Assist with shared goals of City Year Rhode Island 
  • Participate in all staff support for site-wide programming 
  • Serve on a site-wide committee 

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • 1-3 years database software experience required (Experience with Salesforce or similar platforms) 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams at once  
  • Administrative and event management experience in a professional environment utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook. (Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva is a plus.) 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage a wide range of audiences 
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships
