About the team

The Communications team drives Jacaranda Health’s visibility, strategic positioning, and resource mobilization efforts across the organization. The team leads external communications, storytelling, donor engagement, fundraising, and brand management to strengthen Jacaranda’s impact and sustainability as we scale across Africa.

The team works at the intersection of strategy, partnerships, and storytelling — translating complex maternal and newborn health interventions into compelling narratives that inspire funders, governments, and partners to invest in transformative healthcare solutions. This includes leading high-quality fundraising proposals, donor stewardship, digital and media communications, organizational branding, and thought leadership initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

1. Proposal Development and Writing

  • Lead the writing and coordination of high-quality proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest across funding types, from foundations to bilaterals and multilaterals.

  • Work with program and country teams to translate our work into compelling narratives and well-structured asks that open new revenue streams.

  • Research prospective funders and develop targeted positioning as we diversify beyond our current funder base.

2. Donor Stewardship

  • Develop and drive a proactive stewardship strategy that keeps funders engaged and informed between reporting cycles, strengthening relationship continuity.

  • Prepare senior relationship leads with the briefing materials and talking points they need for every significant funder conversation or visit.

  • Own the formal reporting calendar across our portfolio: coordinating inputs, drafting narrative and data-heavy reports, and ensuring delivery on time and to a high standard.

3. Pipeline Management

  • Track and manage our RFP pipeline, ensuring we respond to the right opportunities with the right level of investment.

  • Maintain clear records of funder relationships, deadlines, and next steps across our portfolio.

  • Help the team prioritise BD time, balancing ambition with focus as we grow.

Who you are:

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

  • A postgraduate qualification in Fundraising, Project Management, Business Development, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.

  • 4 -7 years of experience in fundraising, development, and/or partnerships

Skills and Competencies:

  • An exceptional writer who can adapt across funder types and formats without losing clarity or quality.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex, multi-funder environment.

  • Knowledge of donor compliance requirements, particularly with major foundations and institutional funders.

  • Familiarity with CRM tools and development operations.

Why Jacaranda Health?
