This position is responsible for the performance of pharmaceutical formulation process development activities; authors supporting process documentation (URS, SOPs, Change Control, EAF, ETOP, etc.); leading pharmaceutical process development and design from an engineering perspective; and/or participation in and supporting cGMP manufacturing activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures SOP’s, cGMP regulations and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensures safety practices and procedures are adhered to. Proactively identify and resolve safety issues.
  • Support the development of parenteral products from the feasibility stage to the commercial stage.
  • Conduct, and evaluate results from experiments, studies, and research programs to meet project goals and objectives; project activities may range from process development and scale up, equipment specification, document support, validation protocols and execution and cGMP manufacturing operations.
  • Assemble complex process equipment trains for development of pharmaceutical processes
  • Apply regulatory guidelines to ensure development and manufacture of compliant pharmaceutical products.
  • Further develop technical skills required to properly engineer solutions for platform systems.
  • Recognize opportunities for improvement at the site; make recommendations to management.
  • Enhance knowledge of best engineering practices and regulatory guidelines for development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products.
  • Train lab technicians and technical staff; oversee laboratory and/or technical activities, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BS Ch.E. in a relevant discipline and preferably 5 or more years relevant engineering experience, preferably in GMP environment; or a MS/MS Ch.E. degree in a relevant discipline and preferably 3 or more years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in GMP environment; and a demonstrated level of performance and capability as determined by management.
  • Able to independently work on multi-faceted engineering projects in cGMP environment. Conduct assigned tasks under minimal supervision of senior staff, work on multiple activities in parallel.
  • Knowledge of the engineering principles pertaining to processing and manufacturing process assemblies.
  • Recognize unanticipated or adverse outcomes or deviations; able to use technical expertise and experience to suggest possible causes of unanticipated outcomes or deviations and to propose corrective action or resolutions for problems of simple to moderate complexity.
  • Knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment and safety protocols and practices related to working with or exposure to hazardous chemicals that could potentially affect the health of the employee.
  • Proficient use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software programs. Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate observations, results, and outcomes clearly and effectively to more senior technical staff.
