As a Backend Engineer for Philips Hue, you'll be developing the Cloud backend services for one of the world's leading consumer smart home ecosystems as it moves into a new domain of home interactions. The Hue ecosystem is expanding rapidly through new lights, accessories, and exciting new use-cases such as using lighting to make your home more secure or create an immersive home theater experience.

What you'll do
- Design, implement, test and ship scalable backend services running on AWS to integrate a new category of devices and use-cases into the Philips Hue ecosystem
- Work in a multidisciplinary team (App, Cloud, Embedded) that together builds new features and functionalities end to end. You represent the Cloud backend in system design choices and definition of specifications.
- Closely collaborate with other functions, like QA, product management, as well as engineers from partner companies and suppliers, to jointly optimize our product experience.
- Perform data analysis, identify improvement opportunities, provide input to steer the product roadmap, and work on the ongoing performance and reliability of our cloud software operations.
Your qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Excellent programming and debugging skills
- 5+ years working on software development and definition of large scale microservices on AWS (certification desired) in a continuous delivery environment; having worked on IoT / Smart Home products is a plus
- Experience in Software Development and coding in one of general purpose programming languages (e.g., Go, C++, Java, Kotlin, Swift, etc.)
- Experience using Go or any high level programming language, serverless architectures, infrastructure as code, and DevOps tools & practices
- Good knowledge of SOLID design principles and clean architecture
- Extensive knowledge of network communication protocols (HTTP, MQTT, media streaming technologies), and security/privacy concepts
- Effective communication skills to coach other Cloud developers and work with international partners and colleagues, as well as a can-do mentality to realize world-class consumer product experiences
