AI-Assisted Screening Notice (Pilot Program)

1Password is currently piloting an artificial intelligence (“AI”) powered interview tool for this role. If you are selected to move forward in the hiring process, you may be invited to complete an AI-facilitated interview as an initial screening step.

This tool may record, transcribe, summarize, and analyze your interview responses to assist our recruiting team in evaluating candidate qualifications. All interview outputs are reviewed by a human recruiter, and no hiring decision will be made solely on the basis of an automated decision.

Information collected through this process will be handled in accordance with our Candidate Privacy Notice. At 1Password, AI isn't just something we build around, it's something we actively embrace and think critically about. We believe that meaningfully engaging with AI in its current forms helps us build better solutions for our customers and creates the foundation for what comes next. This pilot is a reflection of that same approach applied to how we hire: we're exploring AI thoughtfully, learning from it, and using it in ways we believe add real value.

Developer Platform sits within the broader Developer and AI org, focused on helping developers and AI Agents securely access secrets wherever they build and run their tooling and we are currently looking for a Developer Intern, Client Secrets Management to join us for the Fall semester. We own foundational experiences like the 1Password CLI, SSH agent, and developer-facing areas of our desktop app, enabling secure workflows across local and cloud environments. Recently, the team has shipped features such as developer environments and local .env file mounting to reduce friction and speed up development. Our work directly supports developers building modern tools while keeping security seamless and reliable.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada or the US. This position will be for 4 months - September to December 2026.

What You Can Expect:

As a Developer Intern on the Client Secrets Management, you will be an active, contributing member of the team with real ownership over your work. Responsibilities include:

  • Learn and grow through hands-on development work, supported by steady mentorship from experienced engineers.

  • Contribute to meaningful features and improvements across our platform rather than working on isolated or “side” tasks.

  • Collaborate closely with teammates, ask questions, and share ideas, your input matters regardless of title or experience.

  • Actively participate in team discussions, code reviews, and problem-solving.

What we're looking for:

  • Confidence: A willingness to take on new challenges, and see them through to completion.

  • Humility: You're not afraid to ask "stupid" questions and make mistakes (as long as you learn from them).

  • Curiosity: You look for better ways of doing things, even if everyone seems happy with how they are.

  • Teamwork: We work together, and succeed as a team!

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with Rust, Go, or TypeScript.

  • Familiarity with building or working on SDKs, CLIs, or developer tooling.

  • Exposure to both frontend and backend development.

  • Experience working in collaborative codebases (PRs, code reviews, shared ownership).

  • Interest in developer experience, security, or platform engineering.

Our culture
At 1Password, we prioritize collaboration, clear and transparent communication, receptiveness to feedback, and alignment with our core values: keep it simple, lead with honesty, and put people first.
You’ll be part of a team that challenges the status quo, and is excited to experiment and iterate in search of the best solution. That said, 1Password is not for everyone. Our work is demanding, we strive for excellence, and the pace is fast. We need people who are keen to take on challenging problems, who seek feedback to grow, and who are driven to make an impact. If you're looking for a place where you can settle into a comfortable routine, this might not be the right fit for you. We’re looking for individuals who are proven experts in their fields, as well as those who are highly adaptable, can thrive in ambiguity and through change, are curious, and above all deliver results.
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We also understand that thinking critically about AI in its current forms will help us create better solutions for our customers and ourselves with its future forms, which will help us continue to close the gap between security and privacy and achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged at 1Password—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.
Our approach to remote work
We believe in the power of remote work, but recognize that in-person connection is important to help us achieve our mission. While we are a remote-first company, travel for in-person engagement is a part of most roles. Frequency will depend on role and responsibilities, and may include, but is not limited to: annual department-wide offsites, team meetings, and customer/industry events.

How we’re using AI today

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.
