Software Engineer II, SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEERING
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a talented full stack developer as an independent contributor to join our Technology Reliability Engineering team in the role of Software Engineer II, Reliability Engineering.
This indivisual will have a strong software engineering background, a demonstrated ability to influence, partner and build cutting edge development, drive the execution, and show a passion for learning. This critically important position will have a track record of helping to deliver reliable and observable digital experiences through the application of concepts from Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, and other relevant disciplines.

Site Reliability Engineers are blessed to work with a variety of technologies and teams, have the opportunity to solve complex issues, and contribute to the most important areas of Kotak’s global business and products.
As a Software Engineer II, Site Reliability Engineering you will:
- Partner with domain engineers, product, and operations to identify and address risks, vulnerabilities, and limits in our system before they lead to large-scale issues
- Improve the availability, reliability, and observability of Kotak’s services and reduce the burden of human toil with development of tools, automation, or process change
- Identify, curate, and adapt key metrics for not only system health and performance, but for team success
- Create and promote a great work environment and positive team culture that optimizes team success and safety; where different backgrounds, cultures, industries and life experiences are valued
- Coach assigned SW I engineers on problem-solving, analysis and development work
- Collaborate with SRE technical leads and other Reliability leaders to identify training and up-skilling opportunities
- Hands-on Technical capabilities on observability tools. Grafana, SignalFx/Splunk, NewRelic specific will be value add. The candidate shall be responsible to get the required libraries delivered through the reporting team. Strong hold on 1-2 programming languages with AWS services experience.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Sofrware Engineer II will lead a independent contributor and a team player focused on delivering reliabile and observable software used by millions of Kotak’s customers. You will be a part of the Site Reliability Engineering group which includes Observability Engineering, Chaos Engineering, Availability, Toil Reduction (Automations).
While a variety of engagement methods exist, SREs are primarily embedded with product delivery teams across Global Technology. This team member will work with those scrum teams and all the roles adjacent and therein. These product delivery teams can span all of Kotak’s most critical digital Mobile Banking Applications.
In order to deliver Site Reliability Engineering goals, you will partner and influence the entire Tech Organization
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelors degree and 4+ years work experience as a software engineer of product/solutions
- Thorough understanding of how to deliver software with reliability and resilience concepts
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating software using modern cloud-based techniques and micro-service architecture patterns
- Ability to build strong relationships with partners/stakeholders and use influence to drive positive change
- A history of finding and reducing toil within complex systems and processes
- Experience with modern observability tooling, processes, and mindset
- A passion for learning, teaching, and mentoring
- And most importantly, a strong desire for building and motivating teams focused on continuous improvement
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer developing products or solutions
- Strong software engineering background
- Understanding of software reliability and resilience concepts
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating software using modern cloud-based techniques
- Experience with microservices architecture patterns
- Experience identifying and reducing toil in complex systems and processes
- Experience with modern observability tooling, processes, and practices
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder influence skills
- Ability to learn, teach, and mentor others
- Strong command of one or two programming languages
- AWS services experience
- Hands-on observability tools experience; Grafana, SignalFx, Splunk, or New Relic are valuable
