The Desktop Engineer/Team Member will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the organization's Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and VMware Infrastructure (VDI) environments. This includes deploying and managing virtual desktops, ensuring high availability and performance of AVDs/VDI systems, and providing technical support to end-users.
Responsibilities:

Design, deploy, and manage virtual desktop infrastructure using industry standard AVD/VDI technologies.

Configure and maintain hypervisors, virtualization platforms, and associated infrastructure components.

Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate AVDs/VDIs solutions with existing systems and applications.

Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures and technical diagrams.

Monitor AVD/VDI performance and capacity, identifying and resolving issues to ensure optimal user experience.

Implement security best practices to protect AVD/VDI environments from internal and external threats.

Provide tier 2/3 support for AVD and VDI-related incidents and service requests, troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions in a timely manner.

Conduct periodic assessments and evaluations of the AVD/VDI environments, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.

Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in AVD, VDI, and desktop virtualization.

Conduct ongoing assessment of operating costs and identify/recommend configurations that maximize cost savings while maintaining acceptable high performance.

Update and maintain virtual desktop environments to supported levels for compliance and optimal performance and security.

Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

2-4 years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting AVD and VDI solutions in enterprise environments.

Experience in configuring and managing Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.

Experience with network connectivity to Azure; Azure Vnet, NSG and Firewall.

Strong knowledge and administration of Windows/Linux/MacOS Server and Desktop operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory), GPO, DNS, and other supporting infrastructure services.

Knowledge / Experience with Vmware Horizon Infrastructure – Connection Servers, Database, Unified Access Gateway, Load Balancers, Desktop Pools, Persistent and Non-persistent desktops, Certificate management, etc.…

Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as Azure Virtual Desktops, VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.

Experience with hypervisor platforms, such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Citrix XenServer.

Familiarity with storage and networking concepts relevant to AVD and VDI deployments.

Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and administration tasks.

Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, VMware VCP, Citrix CCE, Microsoft MCSA) are a plus.
