Black and McDonald, is actively seeking a Designer with knowledge of Electrical Utility and Communication distribution systems. Projects will involve surveying and designing existing electric utility and communications distribution systems in accordance with NESC codes and Utility Owner requirements.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Perform electric utility pole loading analysis studies using, O-CALC Software or PLS CADD

• Design and layout of electric utility distribution system projects in customer GIS and process platforms

• Deliver completed design projects/work orders on time, according to customer specifications and through a customer process database

• Occasionally, participate in the acquisition of field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance

• Follow quality practice and procedures by self-checking all work product and checking the work of others as required

• Follow safety procedures

• Maintain the GIS database with information from sources including, but not limited to, work management systems, as-built construction drawings, work orders, completion records, field reports or other information from the job sponsor

• Process and approve completion records, perform manual or computer aided drafting using AutoCAD

• Perform and update records and maps in Arc Map

• Produce and distribute construction work orders and job packets

• Communicate with Designers and Engineers

• Work effectively in a team environment

• Learn non-industry standard drafting and mapping software

• Additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

o Associates from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) program

o Bachelor of Science from a STEM program preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Designer 1

• 0 – 1 Years of Industry Experience

• Good understanding of mathematic principles

• Minimal experience using software such as PLS-CADD, O-Calc, or GIS

• Motivated to learn the needs of the position

Designer 2

• 1 – 3 Years of Industry Experience

• Moderate experience using software such as PLS-CADD, O-Calc, Pole Foreman and/or GIS

• Basic understanding of designing electric utility and communication systems

• Basic knowledge of applicable codes such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC)

Designer 3

• 3+ Years of Industry Experience

• Extensive experience using software such as PLS-CADD, O-Calc, Pole Foreman and/or GIS

• Substantial knowledge of electric utility and communication systems

• Advanced knowledge of applicable codes such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC)

• Self-motivated and doesn’t require much direct supervision
