The Senior ELA Instructional Designer is responsible for ensuring that the Amplify ELA 6-12 curriculum reflects the program's pedagogy, content architecture, and vision for overall impact. The Senior ELA Instructional Designer focuses on deeply understanding the instructional vision of the 6-12 ELA curriculum, translating the proof of concept and prototypes for that vision into concrete content components, and overseeing an iterative process of user testing and strategic improvements to ensure a highly effective commercial product.

Job Responsibilities:
Instructional Design:

  • Design and develop instruction and learning experiences that embody the 6-12 ELA pedagogy and content architecture.
  • Work closely with 6-12 ELA leadership to refine, actively communicate, and translate the program vision into a commercial product that meets market needs while driving high student engagement and performance.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the current national landscape of high school ELA instruction, state learning standards, and college readiness metrics to ensure strong alignment between the Amplify ELA 6-12 offerings and the needs of the commercial product.


Content Development Structures:

  • Work collaboratively with 6-12 ELA leadership and management to develop the process and templates that effectively support content developers to create unit proposals (including unit concept and outlines) and lesson content that aligns to the programs' parameters.
  • Develop content outlines for program components (learning activities, instructional guidance, student supports, etc.).
  • Lead content and resource reviews to ensure high-quality content that drives strong academic performance for all students and to identify areas for the ongoing training of content creators.


Iterative Curriculum Improvement:

  • Work collaboratively to design and oversee a testing process that puts iterations of the content and learning experiences in front of teachers and students, and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Consolidate feedback to identify and improve content based on results.
  • Continue to identify additional program needs, design learning experiences to respond to those needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of proposed content and instruction.


Basic Qualifications of the Senior ELA Instructional Designer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an ELA-related field (English, Comparative Literature, etc.), Education, Instructional or Curriculum Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of teaching or instructional/curriculum design experience
  • 2+ years of work experience in education or education publishing in a leadership capacity that involved overseeing and evaluating content development and/or training and evaluating instructors
  • Experience observing and evaluating content, instruction, and learning experiences in order to identify needed improvements
  • Experience with digital instructional design and delivery
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills; excellent written and verbal communication
  • Broad understanding of the 6-12 educational landscape, including state standards and college readiness criteria
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment


Preferred Qualifications of the Senior ELA Instructional Designer:• MA in Education, Instructional design, English, or related field• Experience working in or with educational technology• Experience coaching or training teachers• Familiarity with Amplify products, both content and digital platform and navigation
*Some travel and in-person (Brooklyn-based) required (about 10-15%)
Compensation: The hourly rate range for this role is $60.00-$70.00.
