The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Director User Experience Design to join our team in Denver, Colorado

Candidate profile

We are looking for a user experience design leader to join our fast-growing team that builds amazing web and mobile products for the freight industry. This person will report directly to the VP, Product and will lead the team that designs and delivers great product experiences for our customers.  We’re reimagining and unifying our user experience and can’t wait to welcome a design leader who can bring customer empathy, design thinking, and experienced leadership to this crucial part of our product development team.

Our ideal candidate is skilled as both a design leader and people leader.  You know your craft and have helped others mature their practice. You know how to set and evangelize vision and how to work in an agile SaaS development cycle. Your coworkers recommend you as someone who made a positive difference in their careers. We work with low walls between disciplines because we believe good ideas are everywhere and the best products come from teams who work together to deeply understand our customers, experiment, and validate our products.

What You’ll Do

  • Build amazing products. You’ll work with your team, product management and engineering leaders to influence and improve a vital industry with our products.
  • Set strategy. You’ll set direction for design in multi-product enablement, defining platform UI standards & product strategy.
  • User research. You’ll lead and define best practices for user research methods to deeply understand customers and assess the effectiveness of designs.
  • Lead people. You’ll manage and develop a diverse and inclusive team of user experience designers and researchers.
  • Uplevel product. You’ll be a key member of the product leadership team, helping to create a strong user-centered culture and to develop processes and best practices that help our teams build great products.
  • Measure outcomes. You’ll frame goals and define metrics for your products and teams. You’ll track the outcomes of your work and use data to inform plans and changes to those plans.
  • Lead by example. Sometimes a leader has to do the work to show the way.

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years working in the field of user experience design, at least 3 of which have been in a SaaS or software company.
  • You have a toolkit of UX best practices and techniques, know what to use when, and can teach and mentor others to use them.
  • You deeply understand and can build scalable and user-centric design processes
  • You’ve driven process improvement within your team and collaborated with adjacent teams to improve cross-functional work.
  • You’ve brought clarity to complex ideas and questionable plans in order to give teams clear goals and constraints so that they can deliver.
  • You understand building software in the real world and know how to move a product to its long term vision while delivering value along the way.
  • You have experience leading and nurturing a team of UX professionals.
  • You are equally comfortable speaking to executives, customers and engineers and know how to adapt your message for each.
  • You can articulate complex ideas clearly to any type of audience.
