The future of work is happening right now, and we are leading this moment. United by a common purpose, here we will empower tomorrow’s world at work. Join us on our journey as we give our members the freedom and support to push boundaries in their industries, and work to redefine our own.

About The Opportunity

We’re looking for a seasoned design leader, manager, and mentor with a mastery of design craft and an infectiously positive attitude to create high-impact work across our digital product experiences. This person thrives in fast-paced environments, has a proven track record implementing great product development process, working with product and engineering leadership, as well as managing and growing design teams. This person should be known for building a strong team culture, creating collaborative relationships with a long list of product partners, shipping innovative digital product experiences through human-centered design, and upskilling everyone around them in the process.

You’ll join a strong design leadership team empowered to drive user value on a global scale and positively impact organizational development. The team is made up of designers who are strong strategic thinkers and conceptual problem solvers, working on industry-defining innovations at an unmatched scale. Our ideal candidate is someone who will oversee and empower these designers to do their best work, but will also be ready to hop in and do some designing of their own when the moment calls for it. This person should be capable of zooming out to set the team vision, but also drilling down to a level where they’re assessing pixels.

This role requires someone who can be a catalyst for innovation and creativity, someone who can solve complex and diverse problems and deliver intangible value to our business and our members. As the Director of Product Design overseeing Internal Tools at WeWork, you should be passionate about simplifying and unifying complex business processes through elegant design solutions, creating consistent experiences that enable teams to be productive and efficient, and developing enterprise software solutions.

If you’re interested in building community, excited about reimagining the future of work, and have experience with shipping product at a global scale, we’d love to hear from you!

Once here, you will:

  • Define and drive design quality, practice, and offerings that meet both business and user goals

  • Help set the organization’s vision and actively align team efforts to achieve it, including new business opportunities

  • Lead and mentor a team of designers through the end-to-end design process, championing and encouraging innovation, creative thinking, new ideas and solutions

  • Own craft and capability output across key projects, ensuring each project deliverable is of the highest quality

  • Plan and build curated design programs to solve complex problems with design thinking and best in class product design delivery

  • Represent the needs and voice of the user, championing these needs with cross-functional partners to help prioritize planning and process

  • Act as a strategic partner to product and technology stakeholders ensuring prioritization and delivery of key work streams through an inclusive design process

  • Assess performance and provide career guidance for members of your design team.

  • Serve as design consultant to management across the company, cultivating relationships and effectively working with new and existing stakeholders across the business

Requirements:

  • 14+ years of relevant industry experience; 7+ years leadership/management experience; while also having demonstrated experience leading cross-discipline teams.

  • Deep experience designing front-end, back-end and design systems and products, data and analytics dashboards and platforms, and business tools and web applications

  • Strong portfolio of designing SaaS products for enterprises or consumers

  • Experience creating environments where design teams can do high-quality, process-driven work.

  • Background in building and strengthening the multidisciplinary skillsets of a design team.

  • Vast knowledge and experience with driving and applying human-centered design processes while collaborating with customers, engineering, product management, and user researchers.

  • Experience shipping highly visible work into a mass market.

  • Strong Comprehension in two to three areas of expertise such as Service Design, Visual Design, Interaction Design, or Content Design.

  • Highly proactive with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
