Your Role
As a Gensler Design Manager with our team in Washington, D.C., you will leverage your attention to detail and interpersonal skills to deliver exceptional client projects on time and within budget. Grow your project management experience while working on trendsetting projects across practice areas. A focus for the role will be managing multiple fast-paced and complex projects. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong project management skills and experience or strong interest in the Sports practice area with the ability to produce drawings and specifications as needed.
What You Will Do
- Lead architectural deliverables on projects, working with Design Directors, Technical Directors, Project Directors and project teams for all phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production
- Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
- Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions
- Manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
- Advance the understanding that design resilience is a responsibility of every person at Gensler
- Actively support firmwide sustainability and resilience goals, guiding clients and project teams toward multi-benefit resilient design solutions
- Cultivate design expertise with the desire to always learn, grow, and evolve
- Manage project teams for multiple projects
- Establish and maintain ongoing, productive client relationships
- Engage directly with clients in coordination with client or client stakeholders to assure approvals
- Manage project scheduling, staffing/productivity, budgets, project set-up with clients, sub-contractors, vendors and consultants
- Track the financial performance of projects and ensure the projects conform to the contract
- Prepare project proposal, negotiate fees and contracts
- Support bidding and permitting processes
- Create and communicate clear and attainable project objectives and requirements
- Actively mentor the next generation of leadership by inspiring, empowering and leading by example
- Advance an integrated design culture on your projects within the studio, including mentoring, resource management, discourse, initiative support and recruitment of new team members
- While design management and project leadership is this position’s primary focus, production of graphic presentations, 3D renderings, and construction drawings may also be required as needed to support the team
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
- Licensed / Registered Architect + LEED accreditation are preferred
- 15+ years of relevant experience as a Project Manager within a commercial architecture and design firm managing large, complex projects
- Experience leading the design and delivery of commercial base building and interior architecture projects for buildings/spaces
- Experience leading projects of a variety of scales, and mentoring and collaborating with Interior Designers and Architects
- Strong leadership, organization, communication and interpersonal management skills
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents.
- Commitment to a collaborative design process
- Experience negotiating project scope and fees
- Knowledge of local building codes and standards
- Proven experience mentoring and coaching junior team members
- Proven experience building trust with clients and developing client relationships

**The estimated base salary range for this position is $125,000-$150,000, plus eligibility for bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, with final compensation contingent on relevant experience.
