Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop:

  • Frame attachments like fender, fender brackets, accessory brackets
    • Fifth wheel coupling
    • Catwalk platform
    • HV safety components positioning and mounting
    • Rear Underrun Protection Device (RUPD)
    • Side Underrun Protection Device (SUPD)
    • Front and Rear Tow Hooks
    • Mounting brackets and reinforcement structures
    • Recovery interfaces and associated frame attachments
  • Develop modular solutions compatible with multiple Mercedes-Benz and BharatBenz vehicle platforms.
  • Define packaging concepts considering:
    • Frame architecture & Rear overhang
    • Axle configurations & Suspension movement
    • Body builder requirements
  • Ensure compliance with global regulations and standards, including:
    • UNECE R58 (Rear Underrun Protection)
    • UNECE R73 (Side Underrun Protection)
    • Regional homologation and customer-specific requirements
  • Perform structural assessments for:
    • Static strength & Dynamic loading
    • Recovery and towing loads
    • Fatigue durability
    • Corrosion performance
    • Vehicle integration
  • Optimize designs for:
    • Weight reduction & Cost efficiency
    • Manufacturability
    • Commonality across vehicle platforms
  • Develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, homologation, and testing departments.
  • Support prototype builds, validation testing, homologation activities, and production launch.
  • Investigate field failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement robust corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and global standardization of structural safety components.

Qualifications

Technical Competencies:

  • Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicle Chassis Design  and 3 to 10 year of experience
  • Structural Design of Safety Components
  • RUPD & SUPD Regulations (UNECE R58 & R73)
  • Tow Hook & Recovery Load Design
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Fatigue & Durability Engineering
  • Welded and Bolted Joint Design
  • High-Strength Steel Applications
  • GD&T and Engineering Drawings
  • DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP
  • Manufacturing Processes (Stamping, Bending, Welding, Machining)
  • Cost Optimization and Value Engineering

Bachelor's or Masters in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile 

Skills Required

  • 3 to 10 years of experience in heavy-duty commercial vehicle chassis design
  • Structural design of safety components
  • Knowledge of RUPD and SUPD regulations, including UNECE R58 and UNECE R73
  • Tow hook and recovery load design experience
  • Finite Element Analysis experience
  • Fatigue and durability engineering experience
  • Welded and bolted joint design experience
  • High-strength steel applications experience
  • GD&T and engineering drawing proficiency
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and APQP
  • Knowledge of stamping, bending, welding, and machining processes
  • Cost optimization and value engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering
