Job DescriptionTitle: Design Engineer
Reports to: Design Engineering Manager
Job Purpose: Responsible for engineering design related activities
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Evaluates part samples and customer design documentation for critical characteristics/function
- Participates in advanced part quality planning activities
- Creates three-dimensional part models to support up/downstream design data requirements
- Designs tooling and check fixtures in support of manufacturing
- Creates part, tooling and fixture design documentation for internal/external distribution
- Creates and maintains ERP part data in support of manufacturing
- Validates first articles to approved part design
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and ensure GD&T compliance
- Develop prototypes and oversee testing and validation processes
- Serves as project launch lead for assigned projects- from start of project to completion
- Leads concept development and transform innovative ideas into viable engineering solutions
- Drives proactive design improvements to enhance manufacturability, repeatability, and cost efficiency
- Supports on-time launch of new product designs to the manufacturing floor
- Attends Engineering Design Reviews and Project Status Meetings
- Ensures compliance of the Phoenix Stamping Design and Drawing manuals
- Investigates, coordinates and completes engineering change requests with appropriate groups
- Supports Engineering department and performs other duties as assigned or required
- Actively supports manufacturing through Kata and other related activities
- Stays current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and leads R&D efforts
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical design
- Strong understanding of metal stamping manufacturing processes, sheet metal design guidelines, and DFM principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Self-directed/organized, strong work ethic, positive attitude, works well in teams, customer focused and accountable for actions
- Willing to be hands-on in a manufacturing environment
- Autodesk Inventor or similar 3-D modeling experience
- Autodesk Vault or similar PLM systems experience
