Design Engineer

Purpose and content of the position 

The purpose of the position is to design and develop products in line with the company's product 
development plans. The work involves creating designs and producing manufacturing documents 
for prototyping and serial production.

Main tasks: 

• To carry out design assignments in development projects, product maintenance or 
component development, within a given framework.
• Design and develop products according to The Väderstad Way.
• Create manufacturing documents according to valid routines and standards.
• To work independently and with a focus on results to achieve set goals.
• Contribute to the development of methods, procedures and working methods.
• Managing and coordinating small and medium-sized development tasks.

KNOWLEDGE

Education/Training 
Technical education at university level or equivalent technical education / knowledge obtained by 
other means.

Personal Properties

 
The position requires the ability to work independently, goal oriented and responsibly. 
The person will be part of a design team and must work well in a team environment.

Contacts and collaboration 

The position involves collaboration within the team regarding design solutions and to obtain 
information. Collaboration with other departments within the company, such as production 
engineering and service etc, on quality and producibility issues. Some contact with suppliers 
regarding design feedback also occurs. 

Reconciliation takes place with Design Manager and other stakeholders when valid.

APPLICATION OF KNOW-HOW – PROBLEM SOLVING

The employee is presented with a task or a problem, and must evaluate and present design 
proposals. After evaluating the design, the employee must then adjust and finalize their design and 
create manufacturing document. 

Technical problem solving, which involves evaluating and choosing between several possible 
options that requires some creative and analytical skills. The problems involved are sometimes 
complex and diverse.

Freedom of action/Authority

• The employee has the freedom to develop design proposals within the given framework, and 
to create manufacturing documents according to valid routines and standards.
• The designer chooses between standardised components where possible, and designs new 
items where existing alternatives is not available.
• Order materials for prototype construction according to routines.
• The work is guided by existing procedures and working methods. Overall supervision is 
usually in place. 
• The employee is responsible for carrying out their duties in order to achieve the objectives 
set.
• Financial authority according to authority routine.
