Design Engineer

Job Description

As a Design Engineer for MiTek, SidePlate Connections you will develop and produce steel designs and contract documents for new and retrofit building/structural projects including, but not limited to, schools, offices, sporting facilities, hospitals, and medical office buildings.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

• Create computer models using preliminary drawings and/or design criteria.

• Develop and draw by hand project design details for construction.

• Develop gravity and lateral frame solutions.

• Participate in field visits to observe SidePlate connection fabrication and erection.

• Prepare structural calculations and drawings for submission to Engineers of Record and Authorities having Jurisdiction.

• Review shop drawings.

• Review, evaluate and correct structural computer models provided to SidePlate by Engineer of Record, as required.

• Understand project schedules and deliver contract documents on time.

Skills & Abilities

• Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering

• Completion of FE Exam is a plus

• Excellent understanding of statics, dynamics, and structural load path.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable building codes, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, or governmental regulations.

• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

• Strong skills mathematical skills in algebra, trigonometry, physics, statistics, calculus and strength of materials, structural analysis and design.

• Ability to interact at a high level of professionalism with others; including co-workers, vendors and customers.

• Attendance during regular work hours and overtime required.

In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the pay range for this position is estimated at $77,800-101,000/year and a 4% annual bonus.
