Quanex is looking for a Design Engineer Intern to join our team located in Owatonna, MN. This internship opportunity is for Summer 2026.

The Design Engineer Intern will provide engineering technical support to the engineering group, customers, manufacturing, quality assurance, purchasing, sales, and suppliers through a wide range of tasks associated with the design and manufacturing of window and door hardware.

What You Will Do:

  • Model and draft components and assemblies using 3D CAD software
  • Create test fixtures and assist with testing activities in the engineering test lab
  • Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), including documentation and revisions
  • Assist with design tasks across multiple New Product Development (NPD) projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) as needed
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

What You Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or related program, demonstrating strong attention to detail and the ability to follow engineering standards.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling with experience working on complex, multi-component assemblies and contributing to detailed project planning.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods, production processes, and equipment, supported by strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communicator and positive team contributor with the ability to work independently, provide strong customer service, and use Microsoft Excel and Word to support reporting and documentation.

This is a full-time internship position that will be paid on an hourly basis. The hourly range for this internship is $20 to $25, and the selected hourly rate will align with the intern’s academic experience.
