The Design and Release Engineer is responsible for managing the entire life cycle of their respective components and sub-assemblies including defining requirements, conceptual design, supplier sourcing, manufacturing, validation and industrialization. They will work within a Transmission, Driveline and EDM Gear Reducers Organization Center of Excellence (COE) for torque transfer components (gears, splines, shafts, bearings, etc.).
Responsibilities include:
- Design and release responsible for key components for torque transfer components
- Lead the change management process for their respective components.
- Ensure key components incorporate design best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvements are followed and integrated into product design release process
- Lead technical infrastructure evolution for key components including documentation, specifications, requirements definitions and drawing signoffs.
- Lead the supplier sourcing and industrialization of components including production part approval processes for their components
- Lead and support warranty and quality related topics relating to their components and systems
- Lead the cost optimization and value creation processes of their respective components
- Training and mentoring engineers with less experience
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions or related field
- Understanding of system engineering within automatic transmissions and electric drive units.
- Previous experience as a DRE in OEM and tier 1 suppliers to OEMs
- Proficiency in GD&T, creating drawings of components and virtual analysis
- Strong interpersonal communication and team leadership skills and comfortable with presenting to executive leadership teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in with emphasis in mechanical engineering or similar.
- Working level experience with suppliers of torque converters, dampers and automatic transmission components.
- Hands‑on experience with design, release, and manufacturing processes for automotive applications
- Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification
