JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Handle Freight, Demurrage, and other claims for ATC, overseeing the meticulous review, analysis, and processing of claims. Responsible for efficiently resolving disputes related to these claims through effective coordination with pertinent counterparties, such as operations schedulers, traders, ship owners, and the finance and administration group.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct a detailed review and process Freight, Demurrage, and other claims in strict accordance with established procedures and guidelines, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with the accounting team to facilitate the efficient processing of demurrage payables and accurate billing of receivables.
  • Follow internal procedures to obtain approval for payments, promptly escalating to the Demurrage Manager when necessary for timely resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve disputes related to claims promptly, collaborating with concerned counterparties such as operations scheduler, trader, ship owners, and the finance and administration group.
  • Communicate effectively with the head of the department and team members to coordinate efforts, obtain essential information, and liaise on operational requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with various industry contacts, ensuring a robust network of resources for efficient claims resolution.
  • Keep contact with brokers and agents, addressing their requirements to facilitate a smooth and streamlined claims processing process.
  • Maintain meticulous and comprehensive documentation of all claims, establishing a systematic record for reference and auditing purposes.
  • Stay informed about relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory standards in all claims processing activities.
  • Conduct analysis of claims data, generate reports for management review, highlight trends, and propose improvements to the claims processing workflow.
  • Participate in identifying areas for process improvement within the claims processing function, proposing and implementing enhancements as needed.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties and actively participate in projects as directed by the Manager.

COMMUNICATION

Internal Communication:

  • Regularly communicate with the department head and team members to coordinate efforts, gather essential information, and liaise on operational needs.
  • Collaborate frequently with Operations, Accounting, Quality Assurance Group (QAG), and the Law department to provide and obtain necessary services and advice.

External Communication

  • Engage with various industry contacts as needed for the job.
  • Establish and maintain communication with brokers and agents to address any specific requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Skills (Required, Preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Marine Transportation, Legal, or Industrial Management.
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken) and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient negotiation skills

Preferred:

  • Additional certifications or advanced degrees in relevant fields.

Experience & Knowledge (Required, Preferred)

  • 0-3 years of experience in claims processing or related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Freight, Demurrage, and claims procedures.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with different types of contracts in trading and shipping business.
  • Experience in handling multiple demurrage claims.

  • Ability to read and interpret legal language.
