The DC Industrial Engineer will support many of Michael’s key Supply Chain initiatives, including our current multi-year optimization program designed to support omnichannel sales growth, increase DC network capacity and drive efficiency company wide. This position will also provide local engineering support to the DC Operations team at assigned location(s). Results should improve productivity, reduce cost per unit shipped, increase throughput and improve accuracy. To be successful in this role, candidates will need to be comfortable developing cross-functional partnerships to drive results.

Major Activities

  • Establish consistent best practices across the Distribution network.  Maintain documentation of procedures, training materials and support their execution. 
  • Establish and maintain engineered labor standards across the Distribution network, including time study, system configuration (Red Prairie/JDA Warehouse Labor Management), training and support.  Monitor and validate associate performance on a weekly basis to ensure the accuracy and fairness of the standards.  Provide guidance, leadership and training support for the Labor Management program to the Distribution Center management teams.
  • Support the incentive pay program.
  • Identify, quantify and communicate opportunities for improvement in the Distribution network.  Coordinate and manage the implementation of improvements.
  • Measure, interpret and report on the performance of Distribution operations and utilization of resources (workforce, capacity, equipment).  Provide interpretation and recommendations to DC management teams.  Build staffing and planning models to aid in DC management and Distribution network planning.  Help establish appropriate metrics and reports to guide Supply Chain management.
  • Support the growth and development of the Distribution network, including design, layout and start-up of new DCs.
  • Act as a single point of contact for facilitating resolution to cross-functional operational issues for a given program or project. Work with program and project team members to ensure proper requirements are defined.
  • Review and track status of assigned projects and deliverables and provide project updates to business management and Senior Leadership in conjunction with overall strategic initiative reporting.
  • Create and drive a culture of “best in class” operations.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or similar from a four-year college or university

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Minimum 2-3 years Industrial Engineering experience in a Distribution Center environment (Retail DC experience is a plus)
  • Travel required, 25-50%

Other

  • Experience with the development of engineered labor standards and performance incentive programs preferred
  • Experience with WMS and LMS (JDA/Red Prairie preferred)
  • Experience with the design & build-out of new DCs, or participation in major DC re-engineering projects preferred
  • Proven success leading people while managing process and/or system improvements
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with and present to large and diverse audiences
  • High degree of problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to build relationships at various levels and influence decision making
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
