Job Description: 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform SQL performance analysis and tuning, including query optimization, EXPLAIN analysis, access path evaluation, join strategy assessment, optimizer hints (OPTHINTs), and data normalization best practices.
  • Monitor and optimize application performance using tools such as BMC MainView for DB2, BMC Apptune, CA Detector, or equivalent IBM performance monitoring solutions.
  • Develop and maintain automation and operational utilities using REXX programming.
  • Conduct performance and capacity management activities by tuning DB2 and system resources, leveraging monitoring, reporting, and diagnostic tools.
  • Provide application development support, including SQL coding guidance, performance recommendations, and DB2 issue resolution.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation (Level 1/Level 2) covering weekdays, weekends, and critical production incidents.
  • Support DB2 for z/OS Distributed Data Facility (DDF) environments, including distributed workload management, stored procedure performance tuning, and DDF-related subsystem parameter optimization.
  • Analyze and resolve DB2 locking and concurrency issues, including lock escalations, lock contention, deadlocks, and timeout situations across page, row, table, tablespace, and system levels.
  • Manage and troubleshoot DB2 logging environments, including active and archive logs; utilize log analysis and scanning tools to investigate performance and recovery issues.
  • Administer and optimize DB2 utilities, including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, RECOVER, REBUILD INDEX, and related maintenance processes.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 8–15 years of experience as an IBM DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator, with strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, and application support.
  • In-depth knowledge of DB2 database objects and structures, including: 
    • Databases
    • Storage Groups
    • Tablespaces
    • Tables
    • Indexes
    • Views and Aliases
    • Native Stored Procedures
    • Triggers
    • User Defined Functions (UDFs)
  • Experience managing DB2 schema and structural changes to support application development, while participating in both logical and physical database design activities.
  • Strong Mainframe technical skills, including: 
    • JCL
    • TSO/ISPF
    • SDSF
    • RACF
  • Hands-on experience with third-party DB2 administration and performance tools, including: 
    • BMC DB2 Tool Suite
    • BMC Migrator
    • Log Analyzer
    • Detector
    • MainView
    • SPUFI
    • Equivalent IBM or CA technologies
  • Proficiency with DB2 Utilities and BMC/CA utility suites.
  • Experience in data migration and data movement across multiple environments (Development, Test, QA, UAT, and Production).
  • Strong understanding of backup, recovery, logging, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Proven experience in problem determination, root cause analysis, and production issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure or business-critical environments.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change Management. ITIL certification is preferred.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Informatica PowerExchange.
  • Familiarity with Java, Web Services, and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow, Remedy, or other IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms.

Skills Required
