About the Team

At AXIS, robust, scalable, and well-governed data and AI operations are essential to delivering trusted insights, enabling innovation, and supporting enterprise transformation. As DataOps & AI Engineer, you will help ensure that our data platforms, pipelines, analytics environments, and operational frameworks run reliably, securely, and efficiently. You will collaborate with data engineers, Data Visualization developers, analysts, platform teams and business stakeholders to ensure operational activities meet business needs. You will also support deployments and releases involving data systems, analytics products and AI-enabled capabilities.

This role is central to our mission to:

• Ensure operational excellence across our data, analytics and AI platforms.

• Build scalable support models that improve reliability, reduce friction and minimize technical debt.

• Support and optimize Azure-based data platform services, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Databricks and ETL pipeline operations.

• Strengthen platform observability, incident response, environment management and cost governance across the data ecosystem.

You’ll sit within the DataOps & AI team, working closely with Architecture, BTS, cloud teams, engineering teams and delivery partners to ensure our data ecosystem is resilient, efficient, secure and aligned with business needs.

What will you be doing in this role?

• Data Platform Operations: Support day-to-day operations across Azure data services, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Databricks, SQL platforms and related data platform components.

• Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Administration: Support workspace provisioning, persona-based access tiers, deployment support, capacity monitoring, environment promotion and operational governance across dev, test and production.

• Databricks Operations: Support Databricks workspace operations, job monitoring, pipeline execution, reliability processes, support models and Azure escalation paths where required.

• System Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor data platforms, workflows, reports, semantic models and pipelines for performance issues, failures, bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.

• Incident Handling & Support: Investigate and resolve data operations related incidents and provide operational support to data teams and business stakeholders.

• Automation: Automate repetitive data processes, manual checks, deployment activities and operational tasks to improve consistency and reliability.

• Collaborate Across Teams: Work with data visualization developers, data engineers, analysts, architecture, BTS, cloud teams and business stakeholders to ensure business needs are met.

Reporting Line

This role reports to the DataOps & AI Engineering Lead.

What we’re looking for from you:

3-5 years’ experience in data operations, data engineering, analytics platform support, cloud data services or related technology roles.

• Data platforms: SQL databases; SQL Server, Oracle or other relational database platforms.

• Cloud: Azure data services, Azure monitoring concepts and data platform operations.

• Fabric and Power BI: workspace administration, access management, deployment support, capacity awareness, semantic models and reporting operations.

• Programming: SQL, PowerShell and familiarity with automation or scripting approaches.

• Databricks: exposure to workflows, jobs, clusters, notebooks or lakehouse operations is preferred.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $80,000 - $100,000 CAD (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location. In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
