Department Overview
Database Services team, a vital component of the Application and Infrastructure Support division, plays a crucial role in ensuring the company`s data ecosystem is robust, secure, and optimized for performance. This team, responsible for the backbone of HedgeServ's data landscape, is structured into three key areas: DB Architecture, DB Engineering, and DB Operations (DB Ops).
DB Architecture: The Blueprint for Data Excellence
The DB Architecture team serves as the visionary arm, responsible for designing, planning, and modelling HedgeServ's database systems.
Database Design and Modelling: Creating logical and physical database models, ensuring data integrity, efficiency, and scalability.
Technology Evaluation and Selection: Researching and recommending appropriate database technologies based on performance, scalability, and cost considerations.
Best Practices: Defining and enforcing database standards, naming conventions, and security protocols across the organization.
Capacity Planning: Predicting future storage and performance requirements and planning for necessary infrastructure upgrades.
Data Governance: Contributing to overall data governance strategies, ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
DB Engineering: Building and Maintaining the Data Infrastructure
The DB Engineering team is the hands-on builder, responsible for implementing and maintaining the database infrastructure designed by the architecture team.
Database Installation and Configuration: Setting up and configuring database servers, ensuring optimal performance and security.
Performance Tuning: Monitoring database performance and implementing optimizations to improve query speeds, resource utilization, and overall system responsiveness.
Backup and Recovery: Implementing and testing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data resilience in case of failures.
Security Implementation: Configuring and maintaining database security measures, including user access controls, encryption, and vulnerability patching.
Automation and Scripting: Developing scripts and automation tools to streamline database administration tasks and reduce manual errors.
DB Operations (DB Ops): Keeping the Data Flowing 24/7
The DB Ops team acts as the frontline support, responsible for the continuous operation and maintenance of the database environment.
Incident Management: Responding to and resolving database-related incidents, minimizing downtime and impact on business operations.
Monitoring and Alerting: Monitoring database performance and health, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate.
Change Management: Implementing database changes following established procedures, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
User Support: Providing technical support to users, troubleshooting database-related issues, and assisting with data access requests.
Patching and Upgrades: Applying security patches and upgrades to database servers to maintain a secure and stable environment.

The success of HedgeServ's Database Services team lies in the constructive collaboration between these three core areas. The DB Architecture team sets the strategic direction, the DB Engineering team builds and maintains the infrastructure, and the DB Ops team ensures its continuous operation.
Job Description
We are seeking a Database Services Manager with deep knowledge and proven experience of SQL Server, both in administration and development. Knowledge and experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Infrastructure as code and orchestration tools such as Terraform and Ansible, DWH and NoSQL solutions like Snowflake or MongoDB, ITIL and Agile framework and Workday.
This role requires you to work on shifts including Sat and Sun.
Key Responsibilities
Management of the Database Services operations team supporting all facets of Database Services systems in hybrid environment encompassing SQL Server HA Always On clusters built using Terraform and Ansible. Shifts scheduling and management, monthly and yearly reviews, PIP.
Overseeing the Weekend maintenance activities including automated OS patching, Software Releases and Updates, DB Reindexing and other change management activities and scheduled migrations.
Overseeing the BAU PROD and DR systems operations and performance, resource management and budgeting. Adherence to company and team`s processes and procedures and best practices.
Building new automation processes and tools using Terraform and Ansible.
Support of the DWH and NoSQL projects in Snowflake or MongoDB.
Job Requirements for the role
Education:
Minimum Batchelor Degree in Computer science
SQL Server and Cloud certification is beneficial
Experience:
Proven experience as Database operations manager in 24x7 support system.
Working expertise with Microsoft SQL Server Always-ON 2019 - 2025
Working experience with Terraform, Ansible, Packer in Cloud (AWS, Azure, Google)
Experience with NoSQL DBMS – MongoDB
Experience with DWH - Snowflake
ITIL and Agile framework
Workday experience
