The Information Technology organization is the technological foundation of our business and works in collaboration with our partners from across the company. The team drives technology and digital transformation, partners with business leaders to design and execute new strategies through IT and operations services and ensures the necessary IT risk management and security measures are in place and aligned with enterprise architecture standards and principles.
About The Role
The Database Operations Engineer role is responsible for administration of enterprise database systems and to assure that application databases perform optimally according to the service level objectives, verifying the integrity and availability of all system resources. This role performs database configuration, migration, upgrade, monitoring, query tuning, security compliance, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery. The candidate must keep the current and future business objectives in mind; they are expected to bring design and maintain state-of-the-art database environments, especially in the following Database technologies: Oracle Exadata, MSSQL Servers, AWS Database Services, Snowflake and Cassandra.
Responsibilities
- Thought Leader and change agent that works on understanding the big picture business strategy and builds database systems and platforms that support the strategic business goals and roadmap.
- Ensures database infrastructure is properly maintained. Works closely with the Enterprise Shared Services team and Enterprise architecture team to help shape a clear technology lifecycle strategy for all database platforms.
- Build/maintain strong IT control and secure environment ensuring privileged access is only granted to those with an approved role, while reviewing and attesting to existing access entitlements per organization’s policy. Works closely with IT Risk and Compliance to ensure security and compliance standards are followed as well as respond to internal/external audits.
- Responsible for the technical support of mission-critical databases running on Oracle, SQL Server, and/or other database management systems used in the enterprise.
- Develop, configure, and install database management systems. Plan and implement new database instances and schema creation on existing database management systems.
- Apply security best practices to database environments. Evaluate, schedule, configure, and install database upgrades and patches.
- Determine backup strategies for database management systems. Schedule database backups based on business needs. Diagnose and resolve backup failures. Perform test restores database backups to ensure backups are recoverable in the event of database failure and/or disaster.
- Review and advice on System design for High Availability and DR/BCP capability.
- Diagnose and resolve database problems.
- Proactively tune database performance to ensure defined business requirements and service level agreements are met.
- Provide technical assistance to developers for database related code and connectivity. Review database design specifications and application code to ensure adherence to database standards and best practices.
- Provide periodic training, and continuous education to IT teams to adhere to DB best practices.
- Ensure compliance with policies for Change and Security management, including audit & SOX compliance.
- Ensure compliance with ITIL processes including incident, problem and request management.
- DevOps awareness and able to independently support the packaging, validation and promotion of DB changes via the DevOps pipeline. Proficient in DevOps tools and process orchestration.
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience with depth of IT experience that includes supporting large enterprise databases.
- Bachelor's or higher degree
- Experience supporting 24x7 operations.
- Exceptional project management and delivery skills.
- Must possess a clear understanding of ITIL.
- Strong hands-on technical experience with Windows, UNIX/Linux, networking and major database technologies (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Cassandra).
- Strong hands-on database security setups and risk mitigation techniques, and Performance Tuning.
- Experience with industrial standard security tools like QUALYS, IMPERVA, Prisma, and CyberArk.
- Understanding DevOps concepts.
- Strong commitment to operational excellence and a well-grounded understanding of continuous process improvement.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a natural and proven ability to collaborate deeply with others.
- A strong communicator, committed to operational excellence with a track record of delivering on their promises. Strong communication skills that enable the individual to create alignment around objectives and excitement and buy-in for the goals of the organization.
- Client focused. Exceptional service orientation, with an outward focused mindset that places the needs of the business and their staff over their own.
- Strong understanding of security and risk, especially as it relates to patch and configuration management, logging, alerting, and monitoring.
- Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining composure and resilience to relieve stress across the work group rather than adding to it.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000 for Jersey City, NJ region at the commencement of employment. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered will ultimately be dependent on multiple factors, which may include the candidate’s geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications.
In addition, the position is eligible for a discretionary bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.

Work Location
This position is based in Corebridge Financial’s Houston, TX or Jersey City, NJ office and is subject to our hybrid working policy, which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely.
